      I still need help on the following questions. πŸ™‚

      6)\tSimon and Alvin had 116 marbles at first. After Simon bought another 8 marbles and Alvin gave away 20 of his marbles to his sister, they both had the same number of marbles left. How many marbles did Alvin have at first?
      hi

      6. In the end, total number of marbles = 116 + 8 -20 = 104 .. I think you can complete the solution πŸ˜„

      7. correct

      cheers.

        I still need help on the following questions. πŸ™‚

        8)\tThere were 182 guests at Henry Park Hotel. The guests wanted to take a taxi to Sentosa Universal Studio. Transport was provided at a fixed price of $27 for 4 guests or fewer. What was the lowest possible transport cost for these 182 guests?

        9)\tSome scouts were sitting in a circle around a campfire. They were evenly spaced out and numbered in order. The 3rd scout was sitting directly opposite the 11th scout. If 4 scouts were to leave the campfire, how many scouts were left?
        Is the answer 12?

        10)\tThe area of a square is 40cm2. What is the perimeter of the square?

        11)\tAt a party, every girl was given 4 bars of chocolate and every boy was given 5 bars of chocolate. There were 5 times as many boys as girls at the party. Given that a total of 232 bars of chocolate were given out, how many boys were at the party?

        12)\tTin A contains some 20-cents coins and Tin B contains some 50-cents coins. There are 9 more coins in Tin A than in Tin B. The amount of money in Tin A is $2.70 less than that in Tin B. How many 50-cent coins are there in Tin B?
        Hi

        😎
        Charges = $27 for every 4 or fewer guests
        182/ 4 = 45 R2 --> 45 groups of 4 guests + 1 group of 2 guests = 46 groups
        Transport charge = 46 x$ 27 = $1242

        9) 12 ... Initial number of scouts = (11-3) x 2 = 16

        10) Is the area supposed to be 400 cm2 instead ?

        11) Chocolate bars for 1 group of 5 boys + 1 girl = 5x5+ 1 x4= 29
        Number of groups = 232/29 = 8
        Number of boys = 8 x 5 = 40

        12) If there were equal number of coins in the tins, then we can easily work out the number of coins in each tin by dividing the total \"extra\" amount in the 50 cents tin by $0.30 (\"extra\" amount per coin)

        So, make the number equal by adding 9 more 50 cents coins to Tin B , this means that we have to add $0.50 x 9 = $4.50 to the \"extra\". Total \"extra\" = $2.70 + $ 4.50 = $7.20

        $7.20 / $ 0.30 = 24 .. there are 24 coins in each Tin (after adding 9 coins to Tin B)

        So, number of 50 cents coins = 24 - 9 = 15.

        *note that we could also make the number of coins equal by removing 9 coins from Tin A --> Extra = $2.70 + $ 1.80 (*9 x $0.20)= $4.50, number of 50 cents coins = $4.50 / $ 0.30 = 15**

        cheers.

              sianonehalf:

              Need help!! A farmer has 80 chickens and goats. There are 250 legs. How many chickens are there? (Use assuming all method). Anyone??

              Assume all 80 chickens.
              80x2 = 160
              250-160 = 90
              4-2 = 2 (goat has 4 legs but chickens have 2 legs)

              90/2 = 45 -> no. of goats.

              Hence chickens is (80-45)=35.

              By ksi junior

              Thanks ksi junior

                Sry guys, another sets of pb sums…

                1) Find the value of 7/12-2/9? Is there an easier way to make the denominator
                the same?

                2) James invited 5 friends to his birthday party. Each friend shook hands once
                with each of the other at the party. How many times did they shake hands?

                3) Daniel has 1/7 as many cards as Jon. They have 256 cards altogether. How
                many cards must Jon give to Daniel so that they each will have the same
                number of cards? (Pls provide with MD)

                4) Jason had 180 stamps more than Xavier at first. After Jason had lost 220 of his
                stamps, Xavier had thrice as many stamps as Jason. Find the number of stamps
                Jason had at first? (Pls provide with MD)

                5) Jaclyn had a roll of ribbon 10m in length. She used to 2/5 of the ribbon for a
                Teacher’s Day present and her sister used 21/4 m of the remaining ribbon to
                wrap a birthday present. What was the length of ribbon she had left?

                6) Russell uses 4 letters, A,B,C and D to form a pattern. Th first 16 letters are
                shown below. Which letter is in the 74th position?
                A,A,B,B,C,C,D,D,A,A,B,B,C,C,D,D… So is it divide 74 by 4 or 74 by 8 to get the
                Ans? It got 4 different shapes but doubled the shapes pattern.

                7) At a supermarket, Elijah paid $5.45 for 6 bottles of orange juice. For every 6
                bottles of orange juice bought, 2 additional bottles would be given free. Elijah
                left the supermarket with a total of 72 bottles of orange juice. How much did
                he have to pay in all? Round off your answer to the nearest dollar. We’ve got
                the answer $294 but it stated $49.

                😎 The area of the square is 40cm2. If it’s 400cm2 so what is the perimeter?

                  he have to pay in all? Round off your answer to the nearest dollar. We've got

                  Hi

                  8. If area of square is 400 m2, each side = 20 cm, so perimeter = 20 cm x 4 = 80 cm

                  7. Elijah paid $ 5.45 for every 8 bottles --- 6 bottles + 2 free bottles.
                  Amount paid for 72 bottles = 72 / 8 x $ 5.45 = $ 49.05 = $ 49 (to nearest dollar)

                  6. Divide by 8 because the pattern repeats every 8 letters AABBCCDD.
                  74/8 = 9 R2 r--> remainder 2 --> 2nd letter --> A

                  5. Ribbon left = 3/5 x 10 m - 2 1/4 m = 3 3/4m

                  cheers.
