As for DHS , is \"not allowed to drop\".......but forced to drop 😉 HCL
if the pupils can't meet the criteria by end of sec 2......
then will be ONLY CL all the way till year 5 and year 6......

What grade must you score to be 'forced to drop'?

a very resonable grade.....at least a C (unlike some other IP SAP school).....[/quote]C's alright. You mean some SAP secondary schools force their students to drop HCL if they score a B?

Hi Sorry, thread is too long to start from the top.

A qns, what is the difference between a SAP and non-SAP school?
Just because of the HMT that they offer?
But how come some SAP schools dun offer GEP while some non-SAP schools offer GEP? So weird…

In the past, SAP schools were the only ones that offered HCL. Over the years this has diluted and many other schools now offer HCL at P4-6 as well as secondary school. The difference is that SAP schools offer HCL from P1.

GEP is completely different and has nothing to do with SAP. There are 9 GEP centres in Singapore and it so happens that some of them are SAP schools.

SAP school were originally Chinese-medium schools

When post-independence gov't wanted to standardise the medium of instruction of all schools in singapore under MOE/SEAB and to get rid of pro-communist threats (in the past) - but also realise the importance and significance of these schools that have been very good in academic output - the MOE did not cloase them down but categorise them as Special Assitance Plan schools which have both EL & CL at first language standard while all other subjects are now taught in EL instead of CL in the the old days.

Special assistance to help them transition to EL-language school but keep the cultural distinctiveness of the schools - many were founded privately and run by SHHK. And they remain as gov't aided schools (not 100% MOE funded), got to raise part of the funds themselves.

GEP centres is a separate idea that cut across SAP and non-SAP school. eg RGPS is 100% gov't school, and is a GEP centre. hence gov't also has NO affiliation status with any secondary school

but dun understand why CHIJ St Nicholas is a SAP school, but not a GEP centre. What are the criteria to turn into a GEP centre ? :?

St Nic was a Chinese medium school. Not enough kids qualify to be another GEP centre, just like Pei Hwa Pres Pri School, not a GEP centre

SAP and GEP are completely different. SAP schools just have HCL and were Chinese medium schools.

It just so happens that SOME SAP schools are GEP schools, just as there are SOME government schools which are GEP schools and SOME Christian schools which are GEP schools.
