heard GEP result is out at ACS

I'm surprised if it's out at ACS and not at the other schools. Traditionally MOE would send the notification, along with all the documents for successful candidates, at the same time to all schools.

Maybe all schools received the result already. But due to the exams still ongoing, the schools decided to hold back the announcement. As for ACS maybe they've finished the exam yesterday hence the result of GEP selection test was released?

how does one explain why some kids who have been tested gifted (IQ test or Mensa) failed to make it past the second round?

Oh, you heard of such cases? I heard of one such case too.

Anyway, after discussing with dh, we decided not to take any action. No training or special preparation.

Bottom line, gep is just an alternative for mensa kids. It's not like they would be suffering in mainstream if not picked up by the screening for whatever reasons. More time to pursue hobby?

So probably don't have to worry too much when it's your child's turn šŸ˜„

Yalor, at the end of the day, the PSLE is the equalizer. The result will decide who go to the best schools. Like the GEP students, the best ones would be headhunted by top schools too.
The only diff. is that those in GEP will get to do far more challenging Maths n science subjects. However, from my ex-student's experience, many GEP students struggled to cope in the programme.
So, just make sure ur kid keeps up with his/her result. Anyway, the education journey is still a long distance race with many opportunities to strive better even when one falls.

Which secondary school are you referring to which offers GEPpers more challenging Math and Science curriculums and in which 'many GEP students are struggling in'?

Really? Things must be different now. Or some schools are just more efficient/ganchiong than others.

                    Any ACS mums here?

Maybe david59 was referring to Primary GEP. Like my DS when he started his P4 GEP journey, he was struggling in most subjects. Imagine that a lot of materials are crammed and they have to catch up within the short period of time.
My DS was Top in level, Math, English and Chinese during his P3. But have to struggle in P4 GEP, example they have to come up prototype of solar cooker and marked based on how successful the cooker can cooked. Also DS's mentality is that he's only P4 so have to stick to P4 materials, not beyond. Hence his difficulty in catching up. But along the way he realized that GEP meant to learn beyond their level, that's where he started to catch up back. Now he seems more matured and disciplined as compared to P4 but still a little bit struggling.
The math worksheets are quite tough. When I showed it to my friends, they also commented the same thing...

No, I am referring to the GEP programme that starts in Pri 4 for those who are chosen.
