If I'm not wrong, this boy is starting his university soon oversea at 11 years old! We've all learnt a lot from his mum here and I am happy for this family:)

Thanks for the update. If it is true, I am happy for the family to have found a solution!

Does any one know about nanhua? Any comment? As it is the nearest school to us.

How about nanyang? It is the 2nd nearest to us. I heard to apply nanyang is not easy,is it true?

              Hi thmejlfm,

Sorry to hear that your dd isn't having the best of time in GEP. Take heart. P4 can be tough because there are so many adjustments to make - new school, new friends, new environment, harder academic work. Sometimes the social and emotional adjustments are tougher than the academic demands in P4. I'm sure she'll be better adjusted by P5.
Hi thmejlfm, jtoh is right. Some kids need more time to adjust to the new enviroment, new teachers, new friends, and the GEP system. I remembered a few of my ds's friends who did not do well in P4 scored more 80% overall in P6 too. So things may improve in the next 2 years.
As I have shared before, I think P4 is the most hectic year in my ds1 GEP journey starting, from the family tree project, to the science project and the 3 ss Projects to be completed with research, artefact and reflection. He had difficulty in coping with the datelines. In P5 and P6, there was a change in SS. You just need to do 2 projects instead of 3. What my ds told me is that the artefact can be the reseach itself too which mean that you just need to do 2 research and 2 reflections and hence much less time consuming. However, being the kiasu and kiasi mother, I still asked my ds1 to do research, artefact and reflection. Can I check with the parents? Is it true that the reseach can be used as artefact in the SS project? Thanks.

For this holidays, maybe you can ask your dd to think of her IVP? IVP is the project that you are supposed to improve/invent things right? or is it the 'drama' thing. If IVP = the 'invention' project, maybe you could ask her to look around the things we used in our daily life. Is there anything she would like to improve on?

I gave the same advice to my ds1 a few years ago. He rejected my idea completely because he strongly believed that his holidays are meant for playing and books only ( any books- friction and non friction.) But NO textbooks and chinese storybooks. :?:

:congrats: to everyone selected for GEP!

I was hesitant abt letting dd join the prog 2 yrs ago when she was selected but decided to trust her judgement. no regrets now - she loves her school, her friends (the kids in the GE classes are very close knitted), her teachers and the prog. šŸ˜‚
which sch is your girl in?
Thanks, jtoh.

I hope so. Yes, it is very tough.

My dd has became very mutual, and she kept things to herself sometime. I am quite worried about this. Have tried to talk her. But, always show her frustration.

Spend more time with her doing fun things so that she'll be more comfortable confiding in you. It's not just school that's getting her moody. Could also be the onset of puberty. Girls this age tend to get moody and shorter tempered. šŸ™‚

Yup .... I totally agree with u jtoh ..... Or maybe u can ask your dh to talk to her to find out what happen ....
For my case, I am the 'nagger' and my dh is the entertainer plus discipline master to my kids.. šŸ˜‰
my daughter is still very childish and sometimes plays dolls and behave like a 7 year-old...looks very cute to me...ha ha ..there was a while when i would criticize her and she complained that I was nagging, did not give her enough positive feedback and favored Mei Mei more.

This year she became a huge fan of Harry Porter and must have read all the 7 books five times! i decided to read the books too. Then we had A LOT OF discussions about Harry Porter and every character. šŸ˜› (okay i have always been a childish one too,ha ha) so now we can talk about everything including boyfriends...and she never complains any more about me being favoring mei Mei or being critical

so maybe one idea for some of you to consider

                      Hi Neko,
May I ask you a point blank question? Does your dd have enrichment for any/all subjects?

The reason I ask is that from comfy and Thmejlfm's posts, it seems that once a kid gets into GEP, it is not just who is more gifted that forms the competition. Apparently it also matters whether whose parents have deeper pockets to send for all types of enrichment.

I hope you don't mis-interprete my intention . I send my P1 ds for all sorts of enrichment so I don't mean anything negative. Just wish to understand the situation better, to satisfy my curiosity.

My dd attends chinese enrichment. No tuition for other subjects. So far she is coping with GE syllabus (not topping std like when in p1-3 lah but more than 80% and she's happy with that, so am I šŸ˜„ ). she did not ask for tuition for other subj.

For chinese tuition, she likes the teacher and the course mates at the lang school. it is sthg that she enjoys attending and wants to continue.
