I agree. Sheldon is definitely more impressive. In fact , right at the start of last year , the press was talking abt Sheldon & another bright student Muhammad Farhan Abdullah Zain .
At the end of the PSLE 2010, Alex T emerged at the national champ. Dark horse ?

These are just my personal views on the above matter, as well as answering some questions before.

AT achieved Top Student deservingly due to his hard work and efforts, and imho because of
        1) his strength and excellence in both the languages
        2) the easy PSLE maths paper in 2010

I was surprised that he attends tuition for almost all the subjects ( even now! ), despite being one of the top students yearly. Interestingly, he was not deemed the top student in his GEP class during P4-P6. But you have to give this boy credit - he puts a lot of effort in his studies, he was seldom involved in the computer games scene, and works very hard during projects. If I am not wrong, he scored GPA 4.0 for ALL his subjects in the EOY for year 1 at RI as well in 2011.
Having said that, I would never allow my DS to be like that - being so results oriented. They are children first and foremost, and play forms an important role in growing up and the rat race should wait, definitely not at such a young age.

Sheldon is truly gifted, a genius in Maths and others. Most importantly he is humble , friendly and amicable. No air about him at all. I really like this boy, and not because he is excellent in his studies, just his personality. Both his parents are from GEP, and both are equally humble and friendly. He has 2 siblings, a younger brother ( coming to pr sch age, I think ) and a baby sister. I think if the maths paper was difficult that year, he would have been the top student instead.

One interesting point in our system - Farhan's parents took him out from school for almost the whole P6 to study 'elsewhere' on his own, and only coming back for the exams. I do not know the arrangement, but maybe his parents feel he can develop better other than the usual GEP format. Anyone knows what is Maths Hub ? :scratchhead:

As for choosing which GEP school, my suggestion is the nearest one to your home. They are all equally good, in my opinion. 🆒

Straight 4.0s in S1 EOYs. Very impressive. Yes, let's not take any credit away from AT. He did well by his own efforts.

Is Sheldon also in RI? Is he also a 4.0 GPA?

          Hi Strparent

Math Hub and Math Arena are sister company. They provide Math Olympiad class.

My friend’s children attened both and they do not think it is good. Her elder child is in RGS now, her younger boy is in Nanyang GEP now. They then went to Learning Interactive for Math Olympiad class.

I just enroll my son (P5 next year) for their Math Olympiad class starting Jan’2012.

            Herbie, smileplease,

            thanks 😄 .

I was wondering why Farhan was classified under Maths Hub, when he is at RI this year, during the Australian Mathematics Awards presentation recently.

another note for some concerned GEP parents, just let your child enjoy this learning experience. Do not bog them down with too much tuition, just to catch up if you deem they are falling behind initially.

FYI, my DS has never had tuition, until P5 and P6, where he took Chinese tuition 1.5hrs a week due to the HCL syllabus which he dislike, LOL. I think during the talk, they did say, they discourage tuitions for the students, right ? :scratchhead: It was a jolt for him, because he did not want to do HCL ad they said he had an option for GE, hence he agreed to leave his friends from P3. Yet, after we registered, RS said it was compulsory to take HCL. zzzzz. Till today, he said he was scammed. LOL :rotflmao:

I cannot imagine doing tuition for more subjects, as already they were doing so many projects. No choice for HCL, coz I suck at chinese language big time.

              Thank you all.

Any parents with child in Rosyth? This is the nearest GEP school so it will be our first choice. I would like to find out the culture of the school and whether the children needs to stay back late frequently. We rely heavily on school bus so am worried that if they need to stay back and yet the bus doesn’t operate, we will have problem arranging for our own transport.

My son loves maths and I hope Rosyth has the maths olympiad enrichment class.

My DD's teacher came back to comment my DD is not a borderline case so should not be too worry if she gets through round 2. Also he mentioned if the child finds the normal lesson now as boring, GEP would be a more challenging environment for DD.

I'm still waiting for DD to text me later. Told her it's ok if she does not get in since she has done her best. 😂

Congrats! If he's been selected for GEP on his own efforts, he should be fine. All GEP centres teach the same syllabus, are tested on the same exams and all GEP teachers are specifically trained. So *in theory* there shouldn't be any difference between any of the centres. Choose a centre based on its distance from your home, whether you prefer an all-boys or co-ed school, HCL or not, religious considerations etc.

Hi, my DS2 also got into GEP (DS1 just SMS me) but we really have a problem of transferring him to GEP school. We stay in Bt Panjang & I think Henry Park is the nearest unless we put him at Nan Hua since DS1 will be joining NUSHS next year .... Is Nan Hua near NUSHS ? Anyone got kid at Nan Hua GEP ? Good ? My DS2 belongs to the 'lazy' type, dun know if he can make it through .... my DH said better dun let me go ...
