Really envy those who has kids who grow easily.
Not sure about that..... my mum always get questions from passerbys on what tonic she feed my kids.... because they are so well-grown... I also have to ensure they bring their ezlink card if I am going to a restaurant that states 11 and below because they will not believe their age by looking at their build.
But that is a problem too. They grow so well that daddy need to weigh them on a weekly basis and make sure their weight don't increase. He acts like a slimming centre. -

:thankyou: mashy for all the invaluable info. You are a very hardworking mummy. i spoke to my hb on what you shared, as expected, he's very against external intervention i.e. growth hormone therapy. But I will probably still fix an appt to get him checked out (this one I can affordDimsum
Yes, u need to make your own appt. So far he hasn't had any side effects. The common ones they said is the bones grow out of place and need to pin it down. Also spinal growth too. But the dr will monitor every 3 mths. May also have headaches and water retention in the brain if prescibed too high a dose but these are reversible.
My son used to only eat a select group of food. No meats. He has improved a lot now and started eating better. He will now eat beef, chicken and fish. Besides the removing of the food after 30mins, also ensure there is at least one type of food that he will like. Think nobody wanna have a whole meal of food that u dislike. Work on the food he dislike slowly. Don't force. Also have meals together with no distractions. My boy can also survive on just water.
Just get him checked out. I think mothers know best. Decide what's best for your kid. I also recommend u to read this book 'the short child'. U can borrow from library. It lists the reasons for a short child and the growth hormone therapy. My son is getting daily jabs but he takes it in his stride. He is so happy whenever he grows taller so we are glad we decided to do it. Bear in mind it's not a cheap therapy though.

MMM, your kids are SO TALL! I was only 1.5m at P6 but shoot up by 10cm within a yr at Sec1. I am 1.62m too. Actually, for our generation, this is considered above average. But my hb is short at 1.67m. That's why I know my DS won't be tall but I hope he can hit at least 1.7m.Actually, I thought milk is the key to growth for those who are still growing ...
My kids are milk lover when they are young and even now. My P4 and P3 are around 1.5m while my K2 is around 1.2+m. The P3 and K2 were premature babies which people cannot believe due to their size.
I am 1.62m while my hubby is around 1.75m so we are average height folks. I foresee that my girls will be taller than me and they will \"look down\" on me soon....
Yup, I still make my DS drink GainIQ twice a day to make up for his poor eating. -

Many are against such intervention. However from the way we see it, we are just replacing what is missing in his body. Just like diabetic children. Perhaps for us, itβs easier because we found out the cause for his low growth. There are many who canβt find any cause and itβs those that will find difficulty accepting intervention. -

Mashy I thought the formula got +/- 7.5cm? :?Gems
For a gal, it's (father's height-13+mother's height)/2. For a boy, it's (mother's height+13+father's height)/2.
This is the formula given by my boy's endocrinologist. Factors such as diet and nutrition etc will affect the final height. -

Wow 7cm growth is a lot for less than a year for a 6yr old! :yikes:mashy:
Hi!
My ds started Growth hormone therapy end dec last yr. Grown about 7cm since then. He is coming 6 yrs old. Yes, agree it is very ex. What device are u using? I'm using cool click 2 now. Pretty easy to use. If the GH cannot get in, it's wasted money. U should check with the supplier or the nurse and how to use it. One drop is $10 leh. U need at least a yr to gauge the results. Coz they grow in spurts.
I agree that mashy is a very hardworking and dedicated mummy.
Sheling- hope you see this message quickly cos from what mashy is saying if the GH is not administered properly very wasted effort and probably explains why your DD never grow after gaining 2cm after initial 2 months. You should go get the correct technique or maybe go down with your child and let the clinic watch you do and correct your method. Maybe if you get it right during this critical period she may grow much taller than the target. All the best towards a tall child! -

Kudos to you, great mummy! I am sure when your son grows to 172cm he will look back and thank youDimsum

I guess the general thinking is still conservative. I thought about it and if I were in your shoes, I would probably go for this hormone therapy too for my kid if he's got this same growth condition.

Is it? I dunno leh. When I visited the Endo, this was the formula given. Didn't say about the +-7.5cm. He did say that there's variations depending on the nutrition. So it's not a fixed thing but a potential height.
I'm just an ordinary mum, doing things all mums will do.

When i was in pri school, from P1 to P3 i grew 23cm. But i dunno how it happened.

Has anyone mentioned sleep? I believe that is also an important factor - because sleep is the time when the body is repairing and constructing new cells. Of course, to do this, the correct ingredients are needed, such as protein. And that is abundant in milk.
