Our problem is we do not have anyone else to look after him if he needs to travel far away or stay back after school hours, not that we want to get into the top GEP school, what we want is to have him safe & sound in student care in the school so that my DS can wait for us to pick him up … if this is not possible, then we prefer to stay in his current school which also provide excellence programme for top performers, eg. SMOPS training, E2K, ICT, etc …
Anyway if u are staying not too far from your first choice school, with a very valid reason written on the option form, I think your chance of getting it should be high. Get to know last yr a family stay at yishun, was rejected from their first choice nyps as it is too far.
I’m staying in Bt Panjang, so nearest is Nan Hua plus my DS1 going NUSHS next year, I work in Jurong, that’s why & Nan Hua provides after school care within school, so makes it possible for DS2 to have the chance to go GEP, if he choose to go, decision still lies with DS2 … but that will be after Saturday’s briefing

Seeing that Nan Hua is nearest your home, I don't think you'll have any problems getting in.

Given your home location, and your criteria ( DS1 in NUSH, work place jurong), you will most likey get Nan Hua. Its schools like ACS, NYPs etc that get over subscribed since many even though stay far want to their kids to enter these schools.
All the best.

ds2 was selected for GEP. We did not expect it as he did not show any clear potiential. I am worried as to whether he can cope with the demand of the course. Anyone who has come across similar case, where the child does not show clear potential fr P1 to P3 but survive and doing well in the GEP? Ds2 did not go for any GEP training classes. He did not join any maths enrichment too.

Is it a must that the student care needs to be within the sch premises?
My nieces from RGPS goes to student care in Bukit Batok near her home. Sch bus arrangement.

Ur DS current sch seems quite good as they do not deprive the non-GEPPers from the program. May I know which one?

Bcos I may not be on time to pick him up, so have to be near DS1's school so that he can be \"trained\" to take care/pick up of his brother if I can't make it on time.

The school is Bt Panjang Pri Sch, in fact, DS1 was in E2K programme with GEP students for quite a while doing some project togethers. As long as they see your potential, they will \"drive\" you to yr fullest. My DS1 had benefited from many enrichment programmes through the school conducted by outside trainers and his well-developed portfolio gained him CO from NUSHS. That's why we won't mind if DS2 opt out, just that we want to keep an open mind if DS2 wants to try, but decision still lies with him ... let him decide what he wants after Saturday briefing ... bcos ultimately he is the one going ....

For us although Cat High is the nearest GEP school, we prefer a Christian non-SAP boys school which leaves us with ACS. DS loves playing chess and was in the school team. He hopes to go to a school with a good chess team & that will be ACS. He told us from the start that he hopes to study in ACS. 🙂
If we live in Toa Payoh, is that near enough a proximity for MOE to also consider our application for a place there?:)
my ds is in p6 gep this year, in ACS. we don't live near acs but I indicated reason that I am a christian who wants son to go to a christian school, and we got our first choice. My ds is also in the ACS chess team. The chess support there is very good. DS enjoys the school & Gep a lot. The culture is relaxed and the teachers excellent. I have no regrets sending him there.

I dont have any prior experience to share, my elder child a girl is always in the top class but didnt get selected for GEP after round 2 but she gets good grades in the mainstream. My DS although in top class, his grades aren't as impressive as his elder sister. He made it for GEP. Like you son, he doesnt attend enrichment classes except for Chinese. He is also v playful and do things at the last minute. However, he is a child who talks alot and asks a lot even in class (his teacher told me).

I hv my concerns too like you - would he be able to cope? Then I took a step back and thought, the teaching materials and methodology will be diff from mainstream, it may actually benefit him more because of his infinite curiosity. So your DS may not hv fantastic results now but if put in an environment that suits him, he may excel, hence there is a possibility that your DS may do better in GEP.

Just my opinion to share with you, that's all 🙂
