Btw, do you mean they already starting to put these P2 kids into GEP basing on their P2 year end results for next year P3?

So which ones are considered the better class? I or C?

How different are the classes conducted between I and C?

I classes in the above better 1/2 of the level.
R classes for GEP only available from P4 onwards.

From what I gathered from the teacher during the brief, based on the results the kids are divided into 2 groups. Say that year 330 kids, top 165 kids will be in I classes and other other 165 in C classes.
Next the 165 are randomly allocated into the 4 different classes in their respective I and C. So that there is a mixture of levels in all the I classes and C classes.

Note, the kids may or may not stay in their classes for MT. Say a I-1 kid may attend MT in I-3 or C-3 depending on his MT result. Also a C-3 kid may also comes to I-1 to study MT.

Plus there is no standard position and class positioning available in the report book only class allocation for next year, reason so that they kid do not feel pressurized/demoralised.

Oh! Thanks for the info. There is no meet the parents session for end of this year, so I m abit of concern. My gal didn’t do very well for her math exams so I m quite worried she can’t cope in P3. And I also don’t believe in the saying if Eng is strong, you will have less problem with math. Certainly not true for my gal.

Oh So you have a DD in P1 this year?

You could email her teacher and ask for feedback on what she thinks is the area of improvement.

Some kids get confused with the words in the problem sums and so misunderstand the question. That apparently is not the case with your daughter. Maybe its the number concept, or is it more of shapes (spatial) ability. Or was it more a case of carelessness - transfer error, did not read properly, too nervous, did not check, etc.

If it is the later this improves with time. If it is a concept issue , you could help reinforce it by using manupilatives.

Take care , dont worry too much, children develop faster than we estimate.

May I know whether the school has Math Olympiad training starting at which age? Do they engage any external vendor to train the kids?
