GEP 2011 - Screening & Selection
-
I will be bringing DS2 with us. He is 9mo. Neither grandparents are able to care for him. One set cannot cope as they are in their 70s, and another is away in China for a holiday. Should be no prob right?

i don't see any pro with this , probably some other family will also do so like the briefing that i attended last year. -
So how is the GEP briefing?
Anyone choose not to go even after the briefing or choose to accept after the briefing or wanted to accept but after briefing decided not to? -

This was the info announced during the briefing :-
Out of 42K students, 4K was selected for 2nd screening. 566 was offered GEP program. Of these, 343 boys, 223 girls. The ratio btw B & G is 3 : 2 .. keeping up the previous trend

We submitted our forms today and really hope DS1 gets into the school of his choice. I enjoyed the briefing session by MOE, it has answered many of my questions, allayed our concerns. The booths were another thing altogether- I found that whilst most schools were ready to give parents info on their school etc in a warm and genuine manner, one seemed less interested. I was a little disappointed in my interactions with them. Felt like I was being brushed off- maybe coz I look young and not elite enough? Lol. Trying to be "general" in my comment here so not naming names.

ok, just to clarify, your level mean refers to baseline? and what is mean+SD? so far has not seen this in her report card.[/quote]
To me, I would say my child is not able to cope if he has a subject that is below the baseline required. Can cope if most of the marks are close or above the level mean.
Cope very well in the subject if the mark for the particular subject is above the mean + SD.
Lastly, child must be happy, look forward to school, not stressed and have friends.
Baseline or base mark or what is the word used by the GEP department, which I believe, is equal to 70 marks for most subjects.
Level mean = average mark scored by the level.
SD= standard deviation.
Usually after each SA1 and SA2, the school will issue the report book together with a slip of paper where the class and level mean, standard deviation, max and min marks are recorded. -
Hi all,
I must say I am very disappointed with the briefing n orientation for my dd. Firstly, the presentation mostly covers web site info. The only saving grace is we do have a good n interactive speaker. Our children were led to the auditorium for their briefing. Imagine a nine yr old child sitting through an hr talk. My dd thought it was boring, so did a friendโs ds. I was hoping the orientation would convince her, unfortunately, it didnโt.
