      Hi Shalomger,

IF IF IF your ds did not get school of your choice, REMEMBER you can always appeal. I know of this girl, also chess player, and she stays in the east and she requested for Nanyang. She was given Tao Nan. Then she appealed more than once… finally she got in to Nanyang. In one of the years, Nanyang exceeded the 100 places in the school … it went to 107 GEP kids in that batch for Nanyang.

Looking at what you have stated, eg distance from school of choice and religion… I believe you have got a good chance.

      Yes, trust in God!

Sometimes I think some parents take GEP too seriously. Why scold the child if he/she couldn't get into GEP? It just means the kid is better off in mainstream.

Perhaps it's pride and ego....like not making the cut as a top pupil while a few others lesser known kids got selected. 😄

            Hi all,

My son managed to qualify for GEP and now we have a tough decision on which school to choose.

Nanyang is one of the nearest to our house but heard it is quite competitive. Also with so many GEP kids, harder for your child to stand out and shine.

Does anyone have any experience with Nanyang GEP ?

Other choices are Rosyth, which is much further from our house, but looks to have very interesting CCAs, and ACS, but slots are limited.
Why is there the need to stand out and shine? Anyway, there is no ranking in GEP class.

Would think if all in class are so good, your kid can't shine and can't get as high marks for presentation, projects, assignments etc. This affects marks and he may not meet some important DSA criteria eg min 80% for exemption of GAT etc etc. And, so far from other KSPs in DSA thread, seems tt during DSA, kids are ranked by results down to decimal :nailbite: Also, too many ultra shiny classmates, lower chance to be chosen for leadership (prefect, monitor etc) positions or special activity 😓

                  for NYPS,

heard that - each year, usually about 30 to 40 of their own pupils grow up from (p1-p3) get into GEP. This year how many - is it 34 ?

assume that 40 kids get in this year, and the school opens up 4 new classes, with each class having 25 kids max, means Total new intake = 100.

assume all 40 in-house kids stay put (ie. did not transfer out to other centre), means left only about approximately … 60 vacancies, for outsider requests to transfer in.

also notice that China students (foreign talent) tend to choose NYPS as their number 1, first choice school. Somehow, they’re attracted to NYPS a lot. Once come in at P4, all will be doing Higher Chinese.

Gifted + no training > Gep = genuinely gifted
Gifted + training > Gep = still considered genuinely gifted
Non-Gifted + training > Gep = artificially gifted :siam: :rotflmao:
                    Good one.

Gifted + no training > Gep = should be able to cope with GEP
Gifted + training > Gep = should be able to cope with GEP better
Non-Gifted + training > Gep = maybe ... just maybe struggle to cope with GEP.

Yes, that's my thoughts exactly. and not just that, all the competitions/CCAs will be taken up by the shiniest students, so those \"average\" GEPers might miss out, which might rob them of valuable experience.

There might be \"invisible\" pressure to keep up too, will too many bright kids in the class.

Anyone with GEPers in NY ?
