Yes, if the school want more kids take the HCL, they should set a easier paper for P4dyh:
[PH called me up today and asked me a strange question -- why i don't want son to do HCL next yr? :scratchhead: I said the school recommended NCL what, so we just followed. she said the recommendation is based on MOE criteria must get at least 80 marks for P4, but parents can still override. :scratchhead: ok, what is the difference between HCL and NCL. she said HCL will have around 4 more CL lessons per week at the expense of the other subjects. :yikes: So what does the school think? should he take and do they think he can cope? She said most ppl in his class are taking HCL, only a handful opted not to. Some also in the same mark range as my son. In the end i gave up and changed to HCL. :roll: :roll: :roll:
hahaha......ultimately the school wants the kids to do HCL.....if they take into consideration the difficulty level of the paper, i believe most kids of PH are able to meet the MOE criteria....
But I heard that some top school they actually discourage the students for HCL. Can put more time on the other subjects and pull up the total score. -

Yes, he will be taking grade 1 next year. I don't intend to let ds skip any grades. For music, he can take all the time in the world. As someone who loves classical piano music, I'm actually worried that if ds finishes his music education too fast, then my piano becomes a white elephant plus I don't get to listen to live music anymore.
Did you let him sat for the grade 1 exam? I am thinking of skipping grade 1 exam, just go on to learning grade 2, then take grade 2 exam. Hopefully can find time to do so before sitting for his PSLE. My elder boy's sec classmate sat for his grade 2 last July.

Your boy started young, fingers not so long then. My elder boy learnt piano after K2, before P1, also took a long time before completing grade 1.
That's considered as fast in my books. My ds has been learning for 3 yrs before he began to practise grade 1 pieces.markfch:

I just ok ok since he's the teacher, should know DS more than me when it comes to this. -

The violin teacher is quite demanding and has been preparing DS for a higher level, perfecting him in every single note. According to him, from what DS has attained, he is actually more suitable to take Grade 2 (IF AND ONLY IF HE HAS CONSTANT PRACTICE!)Scary:
