2011 PSLE - Appeal for Sec School

funnymum:
I live just beside Tanjong Katong Sec & TKGS. My baby would really love to go to any of these schools because of the CCA offered and the fact that it is very near to our house. However, my baby's aggregate is 6 points away from the COP. And my baby's application into one of the schools for DSA was unsuccessful. How could I help my baby to go into anyone of these schools. I have not submitted the S1 form yet pending for some expert advice here. pls help. thanks
Funnymum, frankly, 6 points away from the sch COP is a lot.....and it is very unlikely the sch COP is going to drop to that extent for this year. If you are going to appeal to these schs, your gal must be able to offer the sch exceptional CCA, sports or something that the sch will want and value.
Otherwise, you might want to start exploring other schs within your gal's T-score range around your area or within easy access. All the best. -

Thanks for your advice. If that is the case, then , my baby can only go to those schools that is affiliated with primary schools, like, St Anthony Canosian (COP 226 - non affiliated, 188 -affiliated) , Geylang Methodist (COP 220 - non affiliated, 188 - affiliated) or CHIJ Katong Convent (COP 225 - non affiliated, 188 - affiliated). Is it safe for her to choose those schools when priority is given to the affiliated primary school? What is her chance to be posted to these schools? Could she also try Temasek Sec (COP 230) ? My son got 250 and interested in nan hua. I m thinking of RV as first choice (last yrs COP was 253). He did not do HMT in PSLE. His Chinese is not strong but he managed A. He said RV 80% gals. Hope to hv some views on 1) Risk of putting RV as 1st choice 2) Will he be out of place due to Chinese in RV or Nanhua 3) How about his chances if ACS Indept is first choice instead of RV? Appreciate. Tsss.
250 should have no problem getting into Nan Hua and ACSI (express).
From the Nan Hua thread they do have normal chinese classes, not necessary must take HCL.
Most co ed IP schools have much more girls than boys.
RV, DHS, NJC all the same. -
Best to call the school you want to appeal to and ask for procedures. I have called number of schools and most are very forthcoming with information.
One principal from school in the west, enlightened me and even changed my mind about appeal.
The school has to be first choice- as many other parents have already mentioned. Shows ‘commitment’ and higher chances of successful appeal. Transfer after appeal is only possible if students posted there, request transfer out. Depending on school procedures, appeals are considered on merit, CCAs and even interviews.
My ideal school for dd has only 80 places and she is about 12 points off last year COP. While I was initially serious about appealing, after talking to dd and mulling over the past few days, I have to accept reality that the chances of getting are very slim. So while the ‘ideal’ schools are top choices, we are now prepared to accept the 4th choice or below which is closer to aggregate score.
I have decided not to pursue appeal as I do not want the period after posting to be unsettling for dd. We just want to move on and focus on working much harder wherever she goes.
In many ways, this is early lesson for dd- not to take things for granted, Hard work and results do matter in getting what you want. Salvos have already been fired when she now fully realizes that being posted to N(A) is depriving her of many opportunities. -
Let say after posting DD is allotted to Anglican high, but she wants to appeal to Cedar girls. is there any impact for her late in anglican high, if she failed appeal?
Thanks! -
Is anyone appealing to Temasek Sec Sch? My god son has a score of 220 and thinking of appealing to temasek sec.

My gal’s teacher is going to write a testimonial for her and she wants to appeal for Crescent Girls’.
Can anyone tell me if her chances of getting in are high? -

Me too planning to ask teacher to write testimonial. How much did your gal get? I got 230. My fren also going to ask with 225. Do you think appeal will be successful? :?: :imdrowning:My gal's teacher is going to write a testimonial for her and she wants to appeal for Crescent Girls'.
