Cannot compare like that lah. You should know better what (I think your kid is there right?). The GPA is a great joke.

In the earlier years they even have common test on different dates. What do you think would happen? Some silly head .... and was stopped.

Depends on the questions and how much hints .... Personally I know of kids who never study also can get GPA 4 for certain assessments. However, among the students, they know who are the best.
      Friend,

Competition is very keen there. There are couple of girls who are outstanding (she is definitely among them) and it is not easy to differentiate them academically. To be fair to the girl, if you look at her humble family background, I think what she has achieved so far is great.

Surely there are smart ones who don’t study and still be able to score GPA 4.0. But definitely not easy to maintain that if they don’t change their studying habits.

Were your girls from RGS too?

        Friend,

This is my greatest fear when I wrote using her as an example - straying away from the actual issue.

I have nothing against her and never doubted her intelligence but only the position in the PSLE T-score. I used her top-score as an example just to substantiate my belief that the assessment method is easily affected by a single subject. I wish she prove me wrong at A-level. The issue we are discussing is

\"How a single subject can change the assessment order of PSLE students\"

        OR

\"T-score is not a fair indication of the Students overall performance.

Unfortunately, 2007 was brought up (not by me) and I conveniently use it as an example because the exceptionally record-breaking T-score that year highlighted the flaw in the assessment method caused by \"math\".

So lets not get personal and discuss purely on the system and not the person.

Hi, I don’t think it is possible to have such a high average score for the cohort, and a low SD too.

            Hi NYCWTC,

            Are you from MOE?
The reason to start this topic is to lure the real MOE dude to put in the REAL Mean and Std Dev. Because whatever we put out here are just some guided guesstimation. Wonder why MOE cannot release these information.

I have been searching for sometime but get nothing... :?

The fact that she is no longer the top 10 in the school also prove that T score calculation is skewed towards Malay subject.

My son took 2007 PSLE. Solved all the tough math questions made him scored 260 with only two A* (M & S).

This example clearly shows that M & S has higher weightage

Thanks CrazyDad for the information. How do you know so much? 😎 Anybody knows what happen to those poor kids who failed? MOE should have taken this into account before setting this year's papers. :x Seems like they keep raising the bar no matter what.

This is in fact blessing in disguise. With tough questions, PSLE will indeed segregate the real talented from the extremely hardworking student.
If the questions are not good enough to separate those two groups of students, they both will go to school where \"Special\" programs are being taught. The outcome is that the \"extremely hardworking \" students will suffer.
As a result, not to worry about those students that failed. It merely send them to the school best fit their current background. Need to know that some kids mature earlier than the others. So giving them the right learning environment is actually much better than squeezing them into places where they do not belong. At time, when they are mentally more developed, they can excel as well.
For example, boy's results always lack behind girl in Primary, but in Secondary, the result of boys normally can overtake the girls.

No, I am not from MOE. But it really just seems impossible for the average for Chinese to be 78...and the others too.

Then can you give your version of mean & std dev for the 4 subjects?

I too find that Crazydad’s figures a little high on the mean, guts feel.
