Choose Secondary school for 2010
-
Hi
Can advise is there a guarantee of the choice of school we opt for? Eg. IF your child score 240 and the cut off point for the following schools are:
Eg. only (not actual cut-off pt)
1) Anglican High - 243
2) Ngee Ann Sec - 240
3) Temasek Sec - 237
IF we place Anglican High as option one, will we get a chance? Meaning, should one definitely have to place a school with lower/same cut off point as one gets? OR can try for schools that have slightly higher cut off point? Of cos we are not talking about a child with 240 applying for school that cuts off at 260.
Thanks in advance for enlightening

I would say if u put Ngee Ann Sec as yr first choice 90% of the time u will get it. Anglican quite unlikely unless most pupils with lesser than 240 applied for it.

There is no guarantee that you’ll get into the school you opted for. That’s because the cut-off point given is that of the previous year’s. So it depends on the aggregates of the current cohort who are also applying for the school you’re interested in.
Having said that, you can put (as in your eg) Anglican High as the first choice even though its cut-off is higher than your child’s aggregate, to try your luck. If the calibre of the students applying for Anglican High this year is lower, the cut-off point may drop and your child may just get in.
I think a lot of parents put as their first choice a school whose cut-off point is slightly higher to try their luck. Then for their next few choices, they choose schools whose cut-off point is within their child’s aggregate so that chances of getting into those schools are very strong. -

can you cfm the HMT points is before or after adding to meet cut off?
Eg cutoff point of a sch: 230
After add HMT point = 230 or must be 232? -
I think booklet 1 did mention that a kid whose #6 choice would not loose out to the other kid who choice is #1 but with a lower score. So is the mark that count and "not first come first serve".

Now that you have estimated T score, it is about time to look for a school that fits this. Please go to this site http://app.sis.moe.gov.sg/schinfo/SIS_AdvSearch.asp, just key in the score in the last box, a list of suitable school will be shown -
If your kid’s score is 235 and staying in the EAST, what is the best school to go?

Haising!
