I am rather worried about Science and English. I realize from hearing what my friends say that their kids can get A star for Math easily but not many get A star for English and Sci esp English. Is there any truth to this? How to help our kids in this area?

Same here lah...started my son for P6 eng assessment like grammar vocab, S&T...but still get heart attack when his CA1 results are out. Any way to advise what title to drill this Dec pls ? For Science, my friend's son has an A* :yikes: and her son didn't attend any tuition at all.

I heard from my friends who have kids in P6 and secondary school now. They say English is hard to get A star. Your kid must be a natural in it, must read a lot. Going for tuition helps but to really get that A star, the child must get almost perfect scores for oral, compo etc so the child should be already doing very very well in daily work. I think if your child is not like that, aim for high A. After all, it is the aggregate that is important not the stars.

I'm drilling a lot in these sections. Dare not think of son getting A* as he doesn't like to read. A HIGH A may be more practical :scratchhead: A friend advised me to cut out articles from ST for him to read. So I'm getting him to read 1-2 articles a day which might be helpful for comprehension cloze passages.

Reading newspapers helps, reading readers digest articles are good too. I am also cutting out newspaper articles for my kids to read but they are rather resistant to them, they prefer fiction.

Consistent work is key. Students who are getting B's and below should have tuition twice a week instead of once. Practices should include some challenging vocab or compre questions. My two cents' worth.
