My DD hope to enter Cedar but with the score of 244, it is safe to put cedar as 1st choice and crescent as 2nd choice?

Will the MOE system give others who put Crescent 1st choice as priority?

Clear cut, Crescent as top choice, literally no chance for Cedar.

Yes, agreed.

RI is my and DS dream school. Sad to say that my DS did not make it in the DSA application and with T-Scored 256, I guess it is near to impossbile. However, I told my DS do not give up. Will appeal to RI via the supplemental intake. If not successful, will try to take the RI year 1 intake test and try to transfer in in year 2. If not successful again, will try in year 2 and so on until year 5. Understand that RI does take in transfer students in year 1 to year 5. Hope DS will make it one day....

Please do not say that all the schools are the same. They are not.....

All Singapore schools are the same. If you keep doing that and keep failing, you are setting your kid up for failure. If you let the boy thinks that RI is the only worthy school, you are telling him he is not worthy. Why not make the best of where he is instead?

Anyway, I thought you can only apply in years 1, 3 and 5? We have enough Rafflesians in the family to let you know it is really not that big a deal to be in RI. I wish my son did not go there sometimes, sometimes, I am thankful he went there. Just like any other school.

I understand how u feel, but very important, I think your ds must do with a positive thinking. Make sure he is not too stress up by doing so else which I think is really no good for him.. I think I do heard of a few cases where by kids cannot go to their dream school, but once they join the new schools they love it... Further more with 256, your ds can go to an ip school.. Heard one of ds classmate only get 23+ and no DSA offer... So ya... Do have a thinker of what I said and ahhh .. At this point of time, both of you don't be too sad la ... And definitely wish your ds good luck for his appeal ...

Ranking is by merit i.e. T-score and in the event that there's only one place left and they both have the same T-score right down to the decimal places, they look at citizenship and if it's still the same, it's ballot.

Hm... maybe share a little story here, since we are at it. My DD2 did not do well for PSLE at all! In fact, we had to go to appeal for her to get into her sister's secondary school. She did not manage to finish her Math paper also, as her eye had a cyst and it was bleeding and she could not see, and nobody helped her, nobody gave her extra time. When we asked to review her paper, spent $100, and just one sentence came back. No error.


So that was 2009. She spent 1.5 years in her sec school, a mix of good and bad experiences in a good secondary school. Then I took her out to homeschool her middle of this year when we went overseas. We studied about 2 hours a day, consistently on a high school ('A' level equivalent) program, she completed with GPA 3.9 out of 4.0. She got a place in the uni last week.

Poor PSLE score - maybe, poorer than many here. But who cares, we did not let that deter us, put on our best and surge ahead of the rest. She will also be the youngest in her class. She will graduate from uni at 17, probably record in this family as well. With the lowest PSLE score in this house. PSLE and the school you attend do not measure anything, unless you let them.

Yes your have proven that one needs to believe in oneself and sheer determination and hard work will pay off. You are a great mum and your DD2 is a tough fighter. Well done :salute:

I do admission interviews for uni. The best students don’t come from RI. The most impressive ones are from polytechnics. Boys are better than girls (because of army I suppose), the ones with varied activities much better than the ones who study only. I fail (they probably can’t get in once we fail them) those who are selfish and expect teachers/profs to hand out everything. Definitely, if you show no respect for your fellow students, we don’t want them as well. Those from elite schools tend to fall into those categories. Poly students are the humble and nice to teach ones. Many top the unis.

Very true. Actually even students from humble JCs can do very well in uni.

At the end of the day, a good university degree is more important than PSLE, O Levels or even A Levels, unless you are eyeing scholarships.

they are quite street-smart too and more hands-on
