Hi Hashroop,

Not aware of schools in the East - but a friend's brother in Bukit Batok with same score is taking the approach of looking for the schools with highest value add for COP around 201. His second criterion is CCA suitability.

Perhaps this approach would help narrow down some schools?

Hi all, i need some serious advice. DS scored 255+2. Like many other boys, his dream sch has always been RI (i hope 2ppaamm, pen88 & a few othr like-minded ones are not rolling yr eyes already ^_^). We live in the east & VS is really close, but DS was fr CHS & he is really comfortable there. He was thnking of putting CHS as 1st choice, & hope to transfer to RI at yr 3 or 5. Btw, he prefers all boys sch and we consider HCI too far away. What do the experts out there think? I wld esp like to hear the measured response of 2ppaamm, pen88, jtoh & of course all other feedback wld b appreciated. Tk u.

To find out the highest value add we can find out from the selection book. What does one need to look out for to ensure the school is academically good if not an all rounder.

Yup, usually unless it is a serious and desperate case (failing), such cases are very very rare. Parents still prefer their ds to stay in RI and load the child with lots of tuition.

actually the son very poor thing.


parents worry if son transfer out of RI, is ‘malu’ (lose face). But in the long term, it may do the son a lot better bec in another school, he has the opportunity to shine in leadership and character positions.

parents with daughters who had accepted DSA from other Sec school, but who are now interested to enter NYGH, may note the formal reply from NYGH:-


a) \"DSA students who have submitted their school option should honour their DSA acceptance - as significant resources and effort have been put in the whole DSA exercise. Transfer request of DSA cases based solely on PSLE results are strongly discouraged. However, our school will consider DSA appeal cases with extenuating factors (eg: a DSA student who is unable to fulfil her commitment to the DSA school CCA due to a permanent leg injury, after accepting the DSA offer).

for your information, our appeal exercise starts on 24 Nov 12noon and ends on 23 Dec 5pm. Appeal form is available on our school website during the said period.

We are unable to advise you on this year's cut off point, as it will only be made known to us on the 22 Dec.\"


b) if a child at end of Sec 2 cannot cope with rigorous IP curriculum prefer a more structured O level curriculum, is there an alternative exit out ?

I guess, my DS would not have any chance appeal to HCI. As he was already accepted by ACS(I) via DSA. For RI, with T-Socre 256, I guess it is almost impossible.

Will ask my DS to accept the reality and encourage him to work hard in ACS(I).

The first part looks like an official statement from MOE because it was repeated on another DSA school too. So many schools are taking the MOE directive seriously. Except for a certain school.
