Yes I'm not working and I coach my child since he was 4yrs old
I believe tat all children can achieve gd results if their parents r able to work wit them for at least 1 hr everyday and slowly increase to 2 hrs a day consistently .As foundation is very important , it helps them to build their confidence .Once they hv confidence they surely be able to do better .However , when they reach critical yrs ( p5, p6) if u feel tat u hv no confidence to help ur kids , hire an experience tutor.
But it is very diff to find gd tutors ,so we hv to try out and observe the tutors during the lessons . Until u think tat the tutors r gd enough to teach ur kids . Try to hire the tutor specialising in the subj ,especially Chinese . I believe tat once they r top students they will always want to be top , naturally n will work very hard to achieve their goal. Make sure tat ur kids hv completed their work b4 their play time.
These r just my humble opinion ( 2cents worth) hope it helps
All the best to ur kids

Thanks for sharing with us. It's not easy but at least your efforts have been paid off. I'm also thinking if I should quit my job or get a part-time job when my son is in P5 to prepare him for PSLE. But i also need to consider our family financial needs. Headache ! -

But i also need to consider our family financial needs. Headache ![/quote]I agree it is indeed a tough decision when it comes to making a decision of whether to 'work or not to work' (part-time or otherwise) when it comes to preparing the child for PSLE. I believed it will be in the best interest of the child if a parent can be there to support them during this tough journey but I guess the family's financial needs is also an important consideration. However, the child's self-motivation is also very important and they must want to consistently do well themselves. Otherwise no matter how much time a parent spends with the child, it does not mean that the child will ultimately be high achievers.
