Hi Ms Tay,
R u a stay-home mum ? Can share how u work with yr child to achieve such good results ? Hope to gain some advice from u. Thanks.[/quot
Yes I'm not working and I coach my child since he was 4yrs old
I believe tat all children can achieve gd results if their parents r able to work wit them for at least 1 hr everyday and slowly increase to 2 hrs a day consistently .As foundation is very important , it helps them to build their confidence .Once they hv confidence they surely be able to do better .However , when they reach critical yrs ( p5, p6) if u feel tat u hv no confidence to help ur kids , hire an experience tutor.
But it is very diff to find gd tutors ,so we hv to try out and observe the tutors during the lessons . Until u think tat the tutors r gd enough to teach ur kids . Try to hire the tutor specialising in the subj ,especially Chinese . I believe tat once they r top students they will always want to be top , naturally n will work very hard to achieve their goal. Make sure tat ur kids hv completed their work b4 their play time.
These r just my humble opinion ( 2cents worth) hope it helps
All the best to ur kids

Thanks for sharing with us. It's not easy but at least your efforts have been paid off. I'm also thinking if I should quit my job or get a part-time job when my son is in P5 to prepare him for PSLE. But i also need to consider our family financial needs. Headache ! -

But i also need to consider our family financial needs. Headache !
I agree it is indeed a tough decision when it comes to making a decision of whether to 'work or not to work' (part-time or otherwise) when it comes to preparing the child for PSLE. I believed it will be in the best interest of the child if a parent can be there to support them during this tough journey but I guess the family's financial needs is also an important consideration. However, the child's self-motivation is also very important and they must want to consistently do well themselves. Otherwise no matter how much time a parent spends with the child, it does not mean that the child will ultimately be high achievers. -

i strongly agree with u . self-motivation is very important indeed .However, during this young age especially when they reach pre-teen,most of them cant discipline themselves even when they know what they should do and what they should not do

Most of my friends also hv to work .Say, both friend A and friend B work .
They reach home everyday at abt 8-930pm . Friend A only provides numerous tuition classes for her child ever since her chid was very young but she does not care abt anything else. when her child doesnt perform well, the only thing she will do is scold or cane her child. However, Friend B provides tuition classes, checks her child homework , accompanies her child to sleep for 30 mins and tries to communicate with her child before sleep . During her off-days she will work with her child for at least 2-3hrs to make sure her child is able to cope well in sch .Before PSLE she applies for a week's leave to help her child with his revision . Eventually , her child manages to get into a band 1 school even-though he cant be the top scorer in his previous sch. However , Friend A child is streamed to Normal academic...
Of course we know what is best for our children but sometimes, we hv no choice... But, I believe that as long as we put in as much effort as we can , our hard work will pay off, regardless whether u r a workingmom or stayhome mom . \"JiAyOu\" to all mummies and daddies :rahrah: :rahrah: -

Send DS to school yesterday n today, saw Xingnan had posted their top scorers. So I login to Juying website to check. Still not updated yet. -
Hi everyone,
How’s your kids coping during these first few days of school ?
My son looked tired, probably after the long break not yet getting used to school life. Need time for the adjustment.
My son is in P3 this year. He brought back their time-table on the first day.
For every week, he will need to stay back after school for 3 days !
One day for HMT, one day for supplementary class n one day for CCA.
Wow…looks like they are going to have a hectic year.
Sometimes as a parent I feel heartache to see him look so tired in the evening when he reach home. Sigh … -
my son is in P2 this yr, also rec’d TEMP timetable yesterday. He started his lesson yesterday, spelling list coming out soon…really diff fm P1, make my "Kiasu" thinking comes again… oh no…i hope he can cope well like last yr result…
i noticed that most of school already update their info on school website, i still waiting for Juying to do the updating asap…eg:latest PSLE result FY11, school event… -
