My wife bought this brand La Gourmet from Robinson a month ago, one 7L and a free 1.5L for $118 after various discounts for members. Pretty good quality and really useful to use compared to slow cooker which she had used for upteen years already. Definitely save on electricity.

I think lower end type may use more inferior quality like the type of stainless steel used.

I would like to know if I boil the soup in the morning and leave it in the thermal pot. Will it be still hot when I came back from work at 7.00pm? Do I need to re-heat?

I would say..the soup will be warm..but if you prefer to drink hot soup, then you may have to reheat it. For me, I usu boil a pot of water in the morning, add dried scallops, red dates, sweets corns, carrot/carrots/potatoess and leave them in the thermal pot. In the evening, when my hubby and kids come home for dinner, I will remove the pot and put it on the stove..then reheat it..add some wanton, fishballs and vegs to the soup In fact the soup can be quite tasty on its own without adding the additional ingredients, and the carrots/carrots do not turn mushy.

I think it is good to bring the soup to a boil again for a few minutes- kill any bacteria that grows in a warm environment.

Hi Jennifer - I have not tried making milky soup using thermal pot as my family prefers clear soup. I usu use the pot to make teochew porridge, meat stew and tonic soups. If I am adding meat, I will have to make sure that there is enough water to cover the meat..otherwise the meat will be undercooked.

            bebe, thank you for sharing.

I visited a few websites, mostly clear soup. That's why I am still hesitating although I am having mishaps with boiling the soup over conventional stove or staying at home to check on the slow cooker (just in case).

              Hi CMF and all,

Thank you for the reply. I am still considering to get one. I saw the thermos brand (thermal shuttle chef), with 2 inner pots. Anyone has experience with this type?

I need to prepare meals at night so it will be ready in the morning. Using slow cooker, the soup tends to be overcooked. If I don't buy the thermal pot, I am thinking to get an adaptor with timer for the slow cooker, so the slow cooker can switch off / on itself. Anyone has seen this kind of adaptor before? :?

DIY shops will sell them. DH bought one to switch the light on and off daily for his fish tank. There are different types, and they come in digital and non-digital formats. We chose the non-digital one partly because we were afraid the timer would be rendered useless should the LCD break down. Keep in mind the space needed to plug in and set/switch on the timer. The socket our timer is plugged into is just under some cabinets so there wasn't much space for the bulkier timers. If you don't know how to use the timer, ask the DIY shop staff. If they say dunno, go to another shop. No point buying one that you don't know how to use properly.

                        Hi Schellen,

The timer sounds fantastic. So, we can set the time when we want our electric item to be switch on? Or we can set how long we want it to be on?
