Do you really think the child makes the decision? It's usually the parents. Actually I feel a lot of people go for DSA just to play safe. If you are not sure you want to study in that school, you should not even DSA in the first place. In my time, we had to choose schools based on expected results. DSA is not that different. The fact is, most people only appeal because they got better results than they expected, not because they suddenly realise what they want.
1) The child has to be there for 4 to 6 years, not us, not MOE. DSA period is usually a busy and stressful time. If a child makes a wrong decision during DSA, is it wrong to appeal after he has a better idea of what he wants? We are talking about a 11 to 12-year old kid. We cannot assume that he is making a frivolous decision. If he wants to appeal, is it wrong to give him the benefit of the doubt that he is serious about it. (Not a scholarship bond).
2) Perhaps DSA helps to relieve some administrative workload after PSLE. Hence,DSA. I personally believe that many who DSAed would stick to their decisions. Appealing requires work. It is stressful waiting for the outcome. In short, it is no fun.
3) I personally hope that MOE will not have a blanket statement and say no more appeals henceforth.
If the schools have set aside the places for CO, I imagine the appeals would affect/delay the S1 posting process. -

Thanks. Whoa, how many are after accepting CO from DSA? -

I think it is more the parents who want to appeal. Is it KS mentality?. Get CO first as safety net then appeal if results good enough for top school?Does anyone have any statistics on how many students actually appealed after PSLE, after accepting CO? Is it a case of jumping on the bandwagon?

More often than not, its the parents who want the kids to go for multiple DSAs being the kiasu parents many of us are. And the parents who help the kid to decide that it's safer to put have a CO in hand than to wait for DSA results.Does anyone have any statistics on how many students actually appealed after PSLE, after accepting CO? Is it a case of jumping on the bandwagon?

I don't believe that the decision to exercise a CO is one done in haste. There's sufficient time to think it over. The DSA exercise first starts in June with the application. At this stage, parents and children should already have narrowed down their choices, gone to Open Houses, done their research. Through all the tests and interviews, they would have an even better idea of what the schools are like. Finally, and most importantly, students only need to exercise their CO in October AFTER they've sat for their PSLE. So from the time they were offered a CO to the time of exercise, they've had a month or more, plus they would have sat for PSLE and have an idea if they've done supremely well enough to get into their dream school, thus giving up the CO from their second choice school.
Parents and students should just DSA for schools that they really want to get into and if they don't make it, work harder for PSLE. Why complicate matters for yourself? -
Those who already got a confirmed offer just hve to make good their decision. All these appeals shld hve stopped completely. If no intention of studying in a particular sch, just don’t excercise the offer in the first place. Jtoh, agreed completely with yr reasonings.
All those who appeal are giving lame excuses after all they are trying to waste MOE’s resources. Personally, no time to entertain all these nonsense. -
Another few weeks this thread will be end soon , recently I realised that very less familiar members appear on this thread  天下没有不散的宴席 all the best everyone :grphug:

Hi phtthpactually what is the purpose of entering Sec schools via DSA in the first case ? what advantage of DSA does it bring ?
if after psle release results those with better results immediately quickly rush down to respective school & appeal, might as well just rely on psle & drop this whole idea of DSA, instead of now make DSA a mockery, defeat the whole purpose ?
if you say DSA is to identify CCA sports talents, to let academic talents enter school first, can't the same objective be achieved or met after the release of psle results, ie. (able to identify talents via CCA, or via particular subject academics + able to achieve at least minimum target COP) then can enter particular hot, popular top Sec school(s) ?
Good question, \"WHY DSA?\". Many people, schools, MOE can tell you tons of good reasons \"WHY DSA?\" Maybe, you would step back and think why MOE and the goverment approved DSA? Do you think that every \"White Horse' can get good T-Score in PSLE to enter the top schools? Don't you think that DSA is very good way for those \"White Horse\" enter the top schools via DSA without anyone talking at the back that \"even with such a T-score also can enter this school\"....
Think about it.....???
