      hi smart mummy, HappyH,

      :thankyou:

Same story like you smart mummy. sometimes he refuses to talk and often i forget and switch to english. He does pick up fast but doesnt want to talk - and really language is learnt by talking. Boys already dont have the edge that girls have over language skills. He also doesnt like Tamil movies/songs unless it is like Robo kind of movies . He loves Chitti, lol, mybe i should get a dvd and make him watch a few times...

I do not know to read /write tamil ( could say i am of P1/P2 standard) - that makes my job very hard. Few days back i was trying to read a story to him, seeing me struggle, he said - \"Ma, I think this is high level for you\" :stupid:

Trying to rope in my hubby but not enough time for him. Plus some men dont know how to teach , how to make lesson interesting etc, but no choice for now. I can talk very well in Tamil , though. P3 surely I will need tutor, for P2 I want to manage . Lets see.

Thanks for letting me know that Sunday Raji Publication is closed. I was planning to this sunday. I wil go on saturday instead.

Today i am getting the books from Popular, will check out there too.

HappyH , which level is your son in ?
smartmummy, your Ds is going to P4 in 2012?

I think In paper 2 they check the following grammar. For the compo this will help.First they should know how to end according the subject.

        அவன் வந்தான்.
        அவள் வந்தாள்.
        அவர் …
        அது …
        அவை …
        அவர்கள் …

Then they should bale to use the tense and ending according the tense and subject.
        அவன் நேற்று வந்தான்.
        அவன் இப்பொழுது வருகிறான்.
        அவர் …
        அது …
        அவை …
        அவர்கள் …

But I feel they never Teach grammar properly.

P3 onwards they started to write compo. But very difficult they don’t know how to use the above.Once they build this then easy to write compo.

              Dear Sun_2010,

Don't worry. P2 is definitely managable. They will test the words from Tamil book only. May be one or two from outside.

The grammer part is covered in Tamiloli. The school will also give worksheets to practice that. In my school, they have this programme(!?) or initiated by the teacher - not sure which one is true. One child must say the sentence in any tense of his/her choice. Then the teacher will ask the other child to say the same sentence in another tense say past tense. Then the next child should say the same sentence in future tense and so on. If the child is wrong, then the teacher will explain. We had a very good Tamil teacher in P2. May be you can try this method at home. My daughter's spoken Tamil is also bad since it is not our real mother tongue. She does not know how to end the sentence which is actually important to bring the tenses in. Yours not too late. Start now. 😄

This is the kind of organising that DH lacks in teaching.

Since written and spoken tamil are so different i struggle how to teach him to talk
