2009 GEP Screening And Selection

Hi, I said wrongly, what I meant is the youngest of my three elder brothers. So , eh , no , I am not that old.
Thank you for sharing. I didn't think that it was offensive. I was just intrigued by what you said. I actually went back to my husband and checked with him on the validity. The monstrous pride of HC again manifested itself in his statement,\"Hmpff! This person must know nothing about the history of HC. HC actually surpassed RI in results for some consecutive years. It's not only a top school. It's one of the top 3! ... Even if it's five years' difference, the standard shouldn't have been so different.\" During his time when he did his psle in 1989, the lowest score to be admitted to HC was 250.znzyzyzx:
No , you are not talking to a scholar with psle of 294. You are just talking to someone that psle result only show pass or fail.
When I said more than 25 years ago, it was actual 30plus year.
In any case, your husband could be the top scorer(or among the top lah) to be admited to HC in that year, wherea my neighbours' kids could be the lowest scorer to be adminted in his year.
And for your information, my youngest brother is above 50 years old, so I am really talking about quite a long while ago.
Anyway, I am not trying to say anything bad about HC, for your information, if my son can make it, I would probably let him go there as well. I am just telling something that I know many years ago. No offence intended.
But wow, that's really many years ago. ... If your youngest brother is above 50 years old, ... wouldn't that mean you're just a few years younger than my father? You must have married late then.
I hope you didn't forget my first post about HC boys' prospects in the midst of our virtual exchanges. If I have a boy, I'll ask him to choose RI over HC anytime. I haven't heard of RI boys underachieving, but I've met at least 2 HC boys who are mediocre in their achievements. Okay, my sample size is too tiny to some. Let's just say these 2 HC boys are 100% of what I meet and it's 100% failure in my eyes. It's not just the tangible achievements I'm talking about. I feel that HC has failed to imbue the correct values in her boys. -
rains:
This is not a fair statement. In any school, there are bound to be achievers and underachievers. I am sure there are RI boys out there who are less successful than their peers. And others from the \"less elite\" schools with great success now.

Most of the HC boys that I know of have good morale values and strong character. I know a group of HC students who, after graduating 20+ years ago, still visit their form teacher during Chinese New Year, together with their family and children. -

Hahahaa ... I see. Say properly mah! -

I never say that my statement is fair. Anything that's 'entitled to one's opinion' is never fair. I'm just sharing my observation from my private life in case people think that all boys from elite schools are highly successful. I'm sure there are many cases of what you mentioned. I started sharing my prejudice and biasness when someone asked in an earlier post whether HC or RI is a better choice.
But so far I thought my observation is quite right what. No HC boys come to defend themselves right?
On a side note, I just find it puzzling that you connect 'good morale values and strong character' with 'visit form teacher during Chinese New Year, together with their family and children'. Got relationship meh? -

I remember in my dd's year, most of the kids came out of the GEP selection test saying it was difficult. Some said the English paper was difficult, others said the Math paper was difficult, and others said the GA paper was tough. Only one said all the papers were easy. This girl DIDN\"T get into GEP. So don't worry too much about how your kids find the tests. If they have what it takes, they will be selected.
Thank you. Your words are very comforting. -

Anyway, I think there might be a higher weightage placed on the GA component, bc I notice that there are a few PRC students who got in GEP during my son's year, but their English ability is only passable. They could not even understand the teacher when he gives instructions in English when they were in P4 eventually. So much so that the tr even said \"how did you get in gep if you can't understand eng?\". -

From an objective standpoint, it's true that you are entitled to your own opinion, though your conclusion about no HC boys come to defend themselves and hence your observation is quite right may be, er, \"questionable\" - since they may not read your post and hence cannot defend themselves lah...! -

But my HC hsuband is not a gambler leh... He has good job and is well a respect responsibile husband and father. My nephew is also from HC and he is also not a gambler, he is another good, gentleman of HC leh... With this wat is there to defend. Let reality speaks for itself.I started sharing my prejudice and biasness when someone asked in an earlier post whether HC or RI is a better choice.

Is it true that the 1st round of screening test result was released to the students earlier? Although my son didn’t know about this, his classmates actually told me that results of every student were pasted in the classroom.
btw, anyone’s DD or DS is taking the test at RVPS? I got a slight shock to see so many unfamiliar faces today! I read that there are 400 candidates in the test centre. Lucky this year’s test centre is at my DS’s school. Saw many RGPS and ACS students. Many of my DS’s classmates said today’s test was easy, DS included. -

This \"discussion\" is too hilarious, I must say ... you sure still want to keep it up or not? Under the Topic Header of \"GEP\" some more?
