Hi,
Anybody have any good doctor or any good medicine for Eczema problem? -
Hi! I actually recalled us parents discussing this before but strangely, manual and engine searches couldn't find me the thread. If I can find that thread, it'll be very helpful as they were many informative posts.
Chief, does this board have some auto-delete/auto-hide function for threads past a certain \"age\"? Or is the listing of threads and search engine being buggy? :? -

It's not due to housekeeping. It's due to... dunno what. We need some technical expertise here. Time to call in our heavy artillery. -

Sea-water? Possible for its anti-septic property. I have very dry skin and the skin on my lower legs can get kind of flaky. Nowadays, I bathe with sea salt soap made from the Dead Sea. Once it was more serious, I used the sea salt soap that has sulphur added. Very effective for me. But I think it is not a cure all, more sort of like preserving the skin from further eruption. I gave a few pieces to a few kids in my centre who have this problem and it works quite well. Give it a try.My girl has eczema on her hands which is worsened when she uses the wrong type of soap. Only mild cleanser for her.
And it was worsened in her Primary school years when she was eating her favorite fake sharks' fin soup in the canteen.
Her problem disappeared for a while when she joined the sailing team. Could be the sea water? -
Not sure about sea water, but UV from sunlight is definitely documented as “light therapy” for eczema. So I guess sailing must have given her a fair share of that.
Eczema has to do (more often than not) with skin allergy. Not so much of anit-septic but rather the “steroid” type of medication is widely used to contain the outbreak.
Our son had eczema when he was much younger, and we consulted couple of doctors and finally ended up in National Skin Center. We also learnt that most children will grow out of it, and the allergies can/may manifest through other forms as they grow i.e asthma or conjunctivitis. True enough, our son has seemingly grown out of it now (he’s 4.5 yrs old). -

My elder boy has this skin peeling condition on and off on his fingers, palms, toes and soles since nursery level till now. We did a blood test when he was in K2, no health prob. The prob seems more often now that he eats lunches in school. Is there sth missing out in his diet? Are there special blood tests that can ascertain deficiency in his diet that leads to this consistent skin peeling prob? TIA your advices.
Hi, sounds more like contact allergy than deficiency in diet. Usually food allergy erupts more in terms of eczema, since you use the term skin peeling, I take it that you have ruled out eczema...? If so, another possibility is contact allergy. Keep track of the things he's using/wearing, floor and clothes detergent etc. My part time helper for example is allergic to Dettol products. The skin on her feet will peel off if she has to use that.
In the case of your son, I will look into the type of surface cleaners that is being used. Usually food allergy will be outgrown as kids get older, but contact allergy gets worse with increased exposure. If his started at Nursery, it may be worth checking out the cleaners used in school/childcare to see if it throws up any clues. Especially with all the viruses going on, schools have been cleaning every table/floor surface with stronger cleaners.

He seems to hv sweaty palms, maybe that's the cause. Now I am concentrating on #2's health issue. So #1 is put on hold. Burns hubby's pocket with two of them -

Agree. We shd check out the floor cleaners used in school.

My daughter used to have eczema on both of her legs last year. It puzzled me because only the parts of her legs with direct contact with school floors were showing rashes and itchyness. She told me that they were asked to sit on the floor with crossed legs in her kindergarden. At home, she hardly sit on the floor. I didn't change floor cleaners used at home before and after she got eczema too.
I informed the school principal. Then my daughter was allowed to wear long pants and socks to school. As a result, her rashes symtom improved immediately in few days and she recovered completely in 3 weeks.
After 3 mths, I tried to let her change back to school uniform. Glad. No more problems till today.I think the school has changed their floor cleaners.

It is very common for children to have eczema nowadays.
Both my children have eczema and they still do.
For mild cases, just apply moisturisers and keep them away from seafood and peanuts as I know they make the skin itchy.
For more serious cases where weeping is present, the patient will have to take steroids.
My children apply Tridem when the eczema acts up and I try not to let them take the pills as too much will have adverse effect.
Most importantly, keep the patient cool and clean. -

I think it's because of the changing nature of our food. I began having strange rashes and sensitive skin in my early twenties and they finally cleared up after a dermatologist put me on a chemical-free diet for three weeks. He explained it's a matter of personal threshold, and every time we cross our threshhold, our bodies will react and we have to give it a \"rest.\"It is very common for children to have eczema nowadays.
My second child began having eczema after he started on solids. In between each flare-up, his skin is dry, but there will be occasional weeks when his skin is suddenly buttery smooth and he is much healthier. But even after what I experienced, I didn't make the connection. His eczema got worse and worse with each episode, even after we cut out the obvious allergens (eggs, dairy seafood). I'm busy washing bloodied bedsheets and sofa covers. Can cry. Actually did cry, sob sob. Finally someone directed me to this: http://www.fedupwithfoodadditives.info/factsheets/Facteczema2.htm
and I was reminded of what the dermatologist had told me. There is some interesting fact on new additives in the market and the reaction some people get from them.
He's now on a elimination diet and I see improvements. Hopefully it will help another desparate mother. -
My son has eczema since baby. He is coming to 2 years old. Is there any good Dr or TCM to recommend?

Hi. Where do u stay? My family doctor is very good. been treating my two children. -

Avoid steriod, got side effects, find out what the side effects are. Mostly eczema will go away by 12. So be hopeful! My kid's really bad case went off after 12.bibi10:

Hi all KSP,
Just wanna share a bit regards to my younger daughter's bad Eczema that pestered her for the past 3 years....
In fact, the Eczema started from my elder daughter four years ago that last for a year before she outgrown it....
After that, it was 很無奈的傳給了 to my younger daughter without anyone knowing about it...Till one day, my younger daughter complaint the unbearable itchy that falls on her every hour especially during night time that makes her unable to sleep/ even fall asleep already also unable to sleep well..
This happen 3 years ago till this year...I have been sending her to different hospital & even skin centre to have her being treat by different doctors till it was really out of hand & Skin centre tested her blood & told me she was only allergy to furs (Soft toys & nuts) But can eat seafood as mentioned by doctors....
Since after seeing so many doctors & show no improvement at all....i started to believe in whoever that told me....about wherever & whoever or whick particular doctor is sooooooo good & I have been changing quite a few Gp & the \"good doctors\" ever since then...Till I thought I have finally \"found\"a really good & wisdom doctor to cure my daughter...thinking \"this doctor\" will be the last & also the effective de....Why I mention is \"effective\" because....
I started to let \"this doctor\" to examine my daughter in Feb 2009. In Feb 2009, we see \"this doctor\" every week for weekly check-up because my daughter was really in the \"worst\" stage of Eczema...Anyone whom have see her, will definitely say my daughter is having \"Chicken Pox\".... :?:
Although after hearing it, It hurt me & my daughter badly, But we have to accept & explain again & again to anyone that asked about her.
So after a month of the weekly check up (4 times)...To my whole family surprise!! She recover 80% towards a normal healthy young girl with almost beautiful skin....!
Due to the recovering was fast after a month, the doctor change the check- up to monthly basis & also \"STRONG\" medicine can only be given ONCE on the first month of our visiting & also due to lots of side effects (I only get to know about side effects after I've asked, & I was only being told on the 2nd month of the check up!) OK Fine....! Since doctor told me & there are sign of recovery....我就算了!
But months after months, the normal medicine doesn't seems to work well as in....medicine is perscripe in monthly basis..Why i said doesn't seems to work well, because....\"Eat medicine daily, daughter's skin not itchy. Once medicine finished up & not in time to go for a check up even delay a few days....Back to serious itchy skin with \"pokker dots\" again....
Just then early of this year, this issue had alert both mine & my hubby families...till one of my hubby's elder sister had a friend from the skin specialist who is a professor & check with him all the medicine that was given to my younger daughter.....
A week later to my surprise in the early morning before we go to work...hubby's sis called & informed that:
\"The yellow medicine is only can be prescripe to be consume for 3 days only...not 1 whole MONTH....
The green medicine is only MEANT for ADULT to consume NOT KIDS at the age of 7+ years old!
The Blue medicine will only be suitable for short term not long term consuming!
As all the above medicine in long term consume will CAUSE BRAIN DAMAGE & LOTS OF SIDE EFFECT to Kidneys & Lungs!!
The above medicines had been given to my daughter by my daily feeding to her already!
I almost faint!!!!! after hearing it! Can you (Anyone or Parents) accept it after this kind of news EARLY IN THE MORNING!!
So I immediately stop all the medicine!
While stopping all medicine, my daughter itchness is back. So out of no choice...I listen tomy mum & let her try on a product that will boost up her immune system, open up her diet, cure her itchy & make her skin look beautiful again, at the same time give her all the neccessary best nutrition which was extracted from 15 kinds of different fruits....
Now my daughter Eczema had improvement & also is healthy again.
So please all KSP, please do take note & CHECk on which Gp/ doctor that is going to examine your precious child! Although it's going to be very 麻煩! But better be safe than sorry!
Thank you & hope this lesson of mine can let all parent be more caution in choosing doctor! -
My boy also had very bad eczema before. I bought him to the PD, and was prescribed steroid cream. I was told to stop using it immediately once the eczema is cleared, which is usually within a few days.
There are always papers that come with the cream/medication, and I will always read the papers before giving it kids. I advise all parents to do so. Nowadays, with the internet, you can google the name of the medication and find out what are the side effects. It is difficult to know whether a doctor is good or not, but it is easy for parents to read the labels of the medicine and do our own research. Look out for steroids.
Anything with steroids cannot be taken long term. I had a student who is already 18 years old, he took steroids for more than 1 year, and that caused him to have retinal detachment on one eye, and cataract on the other eye !
I google and found this :

PDs told me that eczema cannot be cured, the only way is to prevent it. The most important thing is to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.
I am now using California Baby Calendula Cream for my boy everyday, and http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=150049&catid=27029 to keep his skin moisturized. His eczema is under control now. -
“I am now using California Baby Calendula Cream for my boy everyday”
Hi Tamarind,
Where do you apply Calendula Cream for your boy? Is it on his body + face? -
At my baby’s 2-mth check-up, her PD said tt she has mild eczema. Before then, I had noticed tt her scalp, the skin on her wrists and legs were rather dry. I didn’t recall seeing this in DD1 when she was a baby. Her skin had started getting flaky so I mentioned it to her PD. Her PD also pointed out tt the skin behind her ears were also dry. The PD then told me to use the cream she gave us the last time for her pimples tt refused to go away.
So I used the cream a few times but the thought of using medication on someone so young, the fear of the effects of using steroids and the inconvenience of application made me stop eventually. So in the end, I just used normal baby lotion for her limbs and ears and baby oil for her scalp. Luckily for me, her condition seems to have improved so now, I only apply the lotion to her legs after her bath daily. I am also breastfeeding her on demand in the hope that she will outgrow this condition.
