Reading this thread backwards, I now realize it’s the 7th month. When is the last day?
Sorry, I’m very swaku about these things. My family is very jia kantang. The funny thing though is that I saw both my grandmothers when I was young, and they were both long gone before I was born, so I’ve always been affected by these discussions. But I’ve never delved into it myself. Maybe don’t dare.
Reading Insider’s article sent a chill up my spine cos it’s that strange feeling that it could be real… -

Anyone here with ghostly encounters to share?

I have one ... not really ghostly but very superstitious !
When my girl was very very small. One of the seventh month night, we were on the way home, passing by a block. She suddenly said must pee, very urgent, cannot wait. So I let her do it on the grass area beside the walking pathway. After that night, she started to develop rashes. After seeing doctor and applying cream for a few days, no improvement. I suddenly thought of the peeing incident and told my mum. My mum scolded me upside down for letting her to do that on the seventh month ! She instructed me to do to the same spot, did some praying. I did exactly she said, and the next day, her rashes are gone. -
There is a phenomenon known as sleep paralysis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis), which in many cultures, due to its bizarre nature and associated visual/auditory effects, has ben tied to ghostly/supernatural causes. In effect, a person, coming out of sleep, feels paralysed, or like being pressed down on the chest, or suffocating, and can be associated with terrifying visions. However, it is a perfectly physiological phenomenon.
When I was a young boy, I used to suffer from this, with visual effects of floating green hands (no doubt placed in my mind by adults around me) and it was terrifying. It did not help that my grandparents would speak of this as a 'ghostly pressing', which further reinforced the terror, to the extent that I would fear to go to sleep. It was many many years into the future, in adulthood when I finally chanced upon a discussion in a medical forum that I realised what it was. Up to that point, I was stricken with uncertainty about whether I would be labelled a crack-pot for claiming to have seen ghosts (which I thought I had, until then).
So, my point being, there are many apparently supernatural phenomenon that have simple and logical explanations. In the Chinese culture, there is a tendency to attribute things to the super-naturalistic. It could be harmless fun, but sometimes, they can result in severe psychological impact, so one ought to be judicious. -

This happened quite some time back but everytime I talk about it, I get goosebumps!
It happened when DD1 was about 8 months old. We went to this famous coffeeshop at Lower Delta for dinner - just DH and myself. We started out dinner fine then DD got a little uncomfortable from sitting up too long, so we did out tag-team thingy...1st DH takes her for a walk, then me.
I noticed that as she passed a particular tree, she started whimpering, not normal for her even when she was this young, and it sounded almost cat-like. I didn't say anything, just let it be, continued talking to her and then walked on. Took another turn and came back to the same spot en route back to the eating place all the time talking to her....again, she whimpered.
Didn't say anything about this in the car on the way back; but that night, after we put her to bed, DH and I exchanged notes. Then, he said that he remembered this tree that she was unusually quiet and distracted loh. When we checked back on location, IT WAS THE SAME TREE! :!:
I've always thought she's had the third eye. She can tell of \"someone\" at a place, and I usually feel this (piercing sound only I hear) even without checking with her.
Recently, she tells me there is someone in the house that only SHE can see!
and that's her imaginary friend...this time she's almost 7!

Hahah ! Imaginary friend ! My girl also used to say that when she was about 7,8 yos. She would even want us to talk to her imaginary friend, hold hands with her .... I guess, she was just too loney being a single child. BTW, you child a single child too ?

Gosh… this imaginery friend thing would be worrying if my boy told the one who comes visit him every night is a ‘friend’. I always tell DS1 that it’s not a friend, so don’t go talk to it.
My (usual) brother has such an uncle coming to visit him by the windows every night in our old house at Taman Jurong. We used to live at the 2nd storey and his room faced the carpark (w/o corridor outside). So the uncle would ‘fly’ to his window and start to wave and talk to him. My brother refused to talk to him, just plain listening to what it has to say.
