self drive is definitely more convenient and cheaper

was on a day trip and did not rent a car and taxi fare came up to more than a hundred oz dollars making 4 trips each about 12km only.

should have rented car when Hertz only charge A$57++ a day for Camry

I think it is a waste if don’t explore the wide openness out of Perth

I like Fremantle’s seaside dining etc

Taxi fares in aus is crazy :moneyflies: U must hv made the cabbie's day when u took his cab for sightseeing 😆

Yes, seaside dining at freo is nice. Except that the establishments almost never seem to change their menu nor setting. I was in Perth last month. Tried The Red Herring at East Freo. It was good.

Thanks for your recommendation to Salisbury YMCA. Great hotel :offtopic:

Glad you liked Salisbury YMCA. I stayed there on and off for close to 18 years now...value for money IMHO.

and no wonder the cabbies were all smiles .... not sightseeing lah ... just to and fro for something and that is it.

              Hi

              My first post here 🙂

Can i know more abt Salisbury YMCA? Cant seems to find its website.

Can I know how the car rentals there work? Im abit suaku in this department pardon me 😛
Is it as simple as picking up the car at the airport and returning it before I fly back home?
Do I have to book the car via internet before my trip?

              Re: Rottnest Island
If I only plan to go there for a day trip, any advance booking required for the ferry?

              Many Thanks :please:

I only can give my experience on the car rental for Perth. I had a Qantas package and they have a designated rental company for the package. I just need to go to the airport counter for that rental company and sign a few forms, settle the insurance coverage and petrol options. Of course you have to show your Singapore driving licence. They have the car at the airport and off you go…

You return the car at the designated parking places for the rental company and drop the car keys at the airport counter. No hassle.

Digged this out. This was what i did 6 years ago when my DS was only 3. Just a family of 3. We travelled via public transport and train system:

Day 1: City walk (harbour, swan lake, fort etc)
                  Day 2: Fermantle town trip
                  Day 3: Zoo
Day 4: Vineyard trip <- this is abit time consuming as the bus ride to the vineyard was long.
Day 5: Aquarium & fisherman wharf
                  Day 6: King’s Park

                  -------------------------------------------

Last year, we went again together with our parents. This time we rented a car from Thrifty Company pick up and drop off the car was at the airport.
Stayed at GoodEarth Hotel got kitchenette and living. Good if need to cook for kid.
                  Went to:
                  - Canning Vale Markets
                  - Fermantle town
                  - Swan Valley (Vineyards, chocolate factory, bee farm)
                  - Whiteman’s Park & Caversham Wildlife Park
                  - King’s Park
                  - Perth City (Jetty, Swan Bell)
                  - Suppose to go to the "Pinnacles Desert", hit the wrong HW as guided by the GPS ended up in town forgot the name that can do sand surfing). On the way back to perth city cut through the Yanchep National Park.

my itinerary which we planned in year 2009:

stayed at Quest West End Service Apartments, off Murray Street, near to eateries, convinience stores & even pub/dining… etc

                      went there during cny:
                      day 1: sin/perth via Qantas
day 2: city tour - london court for shopping, Swan Bell Tower, Wheels of Perth, Perth Mint
day 3: day tour to Casversham Wildlife Park & Pinnacles - booked & confirmed online
day 4:AQWA - The Aquarium of Western Australia
day 5: day cruise to see penguins, sealions & dolphins - alos booked & confirmed online
day 6: Femantle & the weekend market
                      day 7: Perth/Singapore via Qantas.

we didnt venture too far out nor did we do any car rental. we took public transport like the subway - train service & did mostly walking.

Looks like it is not too difficult to travel without driving. I intend to stay in Goodearth Hotel and via budget airline. How is Goodearth Hotel? is it very run down?
