Can any1 share what happened to Edmund Chen's son? He seems to be on some kind of eyedrop or contacts before he developed an infection and he was living with blurry eyesight for so long bef he went for an op recently. Apparently it was a success. My heart goes out to his parents who had to endure seeing their son like that.

His son used the contact len and dveloped an infection. His son's eyes recovered aldy. Transplant done at Mt A Hospital

Is the lens the type for controlling myopia or the normal type? Want to weigh the risks bef trying out the options for my myopic son.

I see kids at 4 already wear glasses, apparently there are external and internal factors. The damage is commonly done due to UV light and blue ray damage. That’s why we need sun glasses or a hat to protect our eyesight. Then the radiation from TV, computer, too much straining on eyes. So, eye exercises does help as the iris loss its flexibility. Study also shows that lutein and zeaxanthin are found abundance in our eyes area especially the macula area. So, eat your greens, carotenoid reach food such as carrots.

It means, damage are done but not enough nutrients to repair our eyes. Try super lutein, it helps especially for children the elderly who suffer from cataract, glaucoma, dry eyes. Hopes that help.

          Hi all,

Yeah, I am equally concerned about my own kids eyesight.
One of my children has already started wearing specs in P5 last year- I took him late for his checkup (( the school has the HPB(?) coming to check all the kids and sent me a letter)) checkup, and he was already 150 and 200 degrees! sigh.

On asking the eye specialist about iphone, computer games vs Tv etc, this is the reply I got:

          Q:
My daughter loves watching YouTube videos on my iPhone. Is this very bad for her eyesight? How much time can she 'safely' spend each day/time watching this without spoiling her eyesight ? Is there are difference in watching TV vs computer vs mobile devices? Which is the best to use / worst to avoid ? For computer use, does it make any difference if she is using it for reading / typing versus playing computer games, versus watching videos ? Thanks

Answered by Dr Zena Lim, Consultant Cataract an Comprehensive Ophthalmology Service Singapore National Eye Centre

A:Too much near work or computer games have been shown to be associated with myopia. It does not matter what activities are performed during periods of near work (i.e. reading, typing or watching videos), but she should give her eyes a break after 30-40 mins of continuous near activity. -------

Nett nett, its not just the computer games, etc - its also us asking our kids to 'study more' read more' also posing a problem. The doctor basically said: let your kids go out to play everyday for at least 30 minutes to an hour (could be split up timing).
Apparently, the outdoors makes kids change focus to far objects and near objects as variety, so thus 'exercising' the eyes.

More Q&A from others which the Eye Specialist answered were also at the website I went to:

          http://www.healthxchange.com.sg/answers/Pages/common-eye-conditions-children-doctor-questions-answers-health-xchange-singapore.aspx#

Hope this helps you all too!

My girl started wearing glasses in p2 and her power increased by 75 within half a year. Within 1 year the power has gone up from 125 to 250. Tried myovision lens and it sort of control but there was still increase of 75 in 1year when she was in p3. Optician recommended to try myopilux max lens and she has been wearing it for 1 year and there has been no increase in her degree so far! I am really thankful that the lens worked for her as I am fearful that she may end up with very high myopia due to genetic predisposition.

I thought myopilux max lens is similar to myovision lens? What are the differences? How much did you pay for the lens? thanks.

Go to the above links to read up. The myopilux max is essentially a Prismatic bi-focal lens and the drawback is there is a line on the lens. My girl wasn't comfortable with it initially and took a while to adapt and she is used to being asked why is her lens so special. It did bother her but now that she is seeing good results, she is happy to continue with it. Can't quite remember the actual price of the myopilux as it was done 1yera ago but shd be in the range of $300-400.

Does anyone have young children with a lazy eye or astigmatism in one eye? Did your kid also have frequent blinking? My 2yo was recently found to have astig in one eye and blinks a lot. The anti-allergy eye drops and natural tears don’t seem to help much. What therapy did your child go for? Did the blinking stop?

                    Thanks
