I take the train everyday. These days, every time I take it, I will pray that nothing happen. Once the school re-opens on 3 Jan, my anxiety will be 2-fold as my boy will take the train too. He will need to take 1 line and change to another everyday after school. He has been doing it everyday. He is now 10. The last time the train broke down during his school day a few months ago, I was frantically trying to get myself updated on the service resumption because that’s the only way he know how to get home. Luckily, service resumed before school day ended for him.


With the recent spike of MRT breakdown, I am more concerned about my boy getting stuck in the train than myself. I am listing all the standard Dos and Don’ts for him and trying to pack a small torchlight in his school bag as well. Any kind souls here has any other tips to provide in his emergency kits?

If he has a mobile. Get him to call or sms you of his location whenever there is a breakdown or delay and he is caught it in. That will at least let you know that he is safe and on your side you can instruct and make alternative arrange to get him home safely. If mobile network is down, then perhaps you should get him to head to the station control and make contact from there. Just my 2 cents worth:)

BEIJING - A total of 54 people, held accountable for the fatal high-speed train crash in July, will be given disciplinary punishment, it was agreed at an executive meeting of the State Council, or China's Cabinet, on Wednesday.


These people include Liu Zhijun, the country's former railway minister, and Zhang Shuguang, railway ministry's deputy chief engineer, who were both removed from office over an alleged \"severe violation of discipline\" earlier this year.

On July 23, a high-speed train rammed into a stalled train near the city of Wenzhou in the eastern province of Zhejiang, leaving 40 people dead.

According to a final investigation report, the train crash was caused by flaws in train operation control system and inadequate emergency response of railway authorities.
