In year one, they explore the different ways of shading and drawing of objects like the shoes they are wearing.

In year 2, the boys have to link an article from the newspapers to any 2 objects they can find, draw some 12 pcs of abstract art and somehow \"merge them\", do a wet wash and finally submit a writeup on the pc of abstract art.

Can be quite \"stressful\" for boys who are not into drawing and they would be asked to re-draw the pieces. The marks for Art can be taken as a 6th subject in the calculation of aggregate for IP stream, same goes for the express stream, for L1R5.

Boys who did well in Art for year 2 will be presented with a \"Certificate of Distinction\" by the school and a letter to encourage them to take up Higher Art for yr 3.

The boys in ACSI get many opportunities to organise or lead events. There's charity cafes for every level so every class will get a chance to plan. Same goes for CIP, the boys will have to decide the programmes to be presented in the old folks' home. Some 100 students will be picked to be Peer Support Leaders (PSL) at the the end of Yr 2 to lead orientation camps for the yr1s.

Each boy has to take 2 ccas and there are ample opportunities for them to take lead for big and small events. There's gonna be a point where u start to get worried that your son is spending too much time in their ccas or out-of-class activities, but well, I feel this is how ACSI groom boys to be more \"all-rounder\". It's amazing, but somehow, they chug along. πŸ˜„
Hi is ART only for IP or is it for express track as well ?
My DS is going to suffer a lot with ART.

I don’t really think ACSI is doing well. Their COP has dropped by a drastic 5 in one year. All my friends that wanted to go to ACSI originally now run to other schools like River Valley. Anyone knows why is that so?

Whether a school is doing well or not does not depends on COP. It's based on the achievement of the school it self in terms of academic performance, sports etc.

Why don't you ask your friends that question and tell us? Ask them why they changed their minds and decided to go to River Valley? I'm curious too.

COP do not make or break a school. Its the students, the teachers and the programmes the school has.

Haha, yes, snow crystal. There are 144 IP students in secondary 2 this yr. To join the ACS (Accelerated class of Science), students must opt to do triple science and double maths in Secondary 3. I am quite sure there are Sec 2 IP students who meet the criteria but did not take the selection tests for the ACS because they have chosen a different subject combination.

Students from IP and express take different papers for almost all subjects. I have not seen express exam papers so I am not able to compare. A lower cut-off criteria to be used for IP did cross my mind, however, i didnt probe further.

The physics dean did share candidly that more express students are selected because many of them worked hard in order to be selected for IP in sec 3. πŸ˜‰

So of the 15 express students selected for the accelerated programme, how many ended up in IP in year 3 ?

All 15 are in IP next yr. They will be in one class, with the ASEAN scholars.[/quote]My son is in Year 3 IP this year, ACS (Accelerated Class of Science) was introduced in his batch. He is not in ACS. But as I recall, quite a number sat for the selection test then, I can't remember how many were selected, but I know that there are now 23 in that ACS class, many came from IP with a few from express, and augmented with China and Vietnamese scholars (maybe other countries too, I don't know).

As my son is more of a Maths and Science person, he was inclined to take up triple Science-double Maths combi. However, due to IB requirement, he knew that he would never be able to offer all 3 Science subjects, so he eventually decided to take Phy-Chem with Geog. He is looking at Geog as his backup Humanities subject. Most boys take either Phy-Chem or Bio-Chem if they are not taking triple Science, since Chem will give you most flexibility for choosing a course in U. When it comes to Year 5, many will offer Econs as Humanities subject if they have not taken Geog or History in Year3/4.

My DS is going to suffer a lot with ART.

I believe ART is for both streams. Don't worry too much about it. My son was bad in ART too, frequently trying not to submit his work in hie primary school days. But the ART syllabus in ACSI is not just pure drawing or painting. They were taught to draw in perspective in Year 1 and use photoshop in Year 2. As long as the boy does his work conscientiously, submit what is required, he can get a reasonable grade. In fact, my son Year 2 Art teacher told me that she graded them on how they improve over the year, but not against the work of other boys. Just you are basically just need to improve. My son could get high 70+ marks despite his poor aptitude for ART. So, don't worry.

Express boys need to do Art too. I believe many boys share the same sentiment when it comes to art. Mine is no exception. The gd news is that they have company and that Art will no longer be a subject comes Yr3. πŸ˜‰ Encourage your son to keep an open mind cos u'll never know, maybe his flare for art will be uncovered!

                  Cheers!
