So which should I chose to volunteer as, PV or Community? What are the pros and cons of each?
In my opinion, PV for school will only let you have P2B privilege for the school you volunteer but as you volunteer there, you get to know the school better. For Comminity work, ie. GRL, you get P2B privilege for schools within that GRC so you get more choices.
Both are subject to balloting within P2B if applicants exceed number of vacancies and the distance between your home and the school will play an important part when there is balloting.
Different schools and GRCs have different tasks and hours required so you will need to find out more from the specific school and GRC inorder to make better comparison.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for the information and advise, I am much clearer now.
:thankyou: -
Hi all,
Reporting here liow!
Cheers! -
Since DD will only qualify for Phase 2C, need some expert help to analyse & shortlist potentially which primary school to try for or should I just stay in HK and let her finish P1 in the SIS HK b4 coming back.
Also :
1. Will school allow to apply in 2C if staying >2km?
2. Any idea what they do in golf CCA and is it worth to join school that conduct this CCA?
Background
- planning to return from HK around mid 2012 and put up in parents place in TPY first
- DD has been going to International kindergarden & learning golf since 3 and with personal coach since 4
Currently shortlisted schools
- Pei Chun : just opp my parents hse so <1km but sure have to ballot
- CHIJ (TPY) : >1km so unlikely have chance to even ballot but thinking of buying a place within 1km
- Marymount Convent : >1km
- St Anthony’s Canossian : >2km but have golf CCA
- SIS in HK : stay in HK to finish P1 then transfer back in P2
Thanks -
hi all,
i’m reporting here too.
Was very surprised when we went to Rivervale to apply for PV and was told it had been closed.
I thought we can only start applying for PV only 2 years before P1 registration.
Haiz…so disappointing -

1. Distance is not a criteria in phase eligibility. It only comes into play when there is balloting.

2. Worthwhile in which aspect? :? Aiming for DSA? -
just curious, if i have a kid born on 1st Jan, can i register at an earlier year of registration, if fail in balloting, then register again at the following year?
-
Don’t have an answer for you, but personally, I wouldn’t do that.
If the child joins the earlier batch, he would have just turned 6 at the start of the school year!
DD had a classmate whose birth date is Dec 29. She said he had a hard time understanding what was being taught. So don’t think I will put my child through that. -
