Hi all! Am considering transferring my DS (who is starting P5 in 2012) to a school in Bedok which I believe is doing a great job in training its students for competitive badminton (as noted from the school’s website). My DS is currently schooling in Tampines.

My DS has shown a dramatic improvement in his game these past few months (training privately). Unfortunately, there is no badminton in his present school! My DH and i feel he is missing out on opportunities to grow his potential in a team-environment and to represent his school. He is currently pursuing ICT for his CCA as he is neither keen on floorball nor football which are the only sports offered in his school. His passion is badminton and i would really like to give him the opportunity to excel in it! My DS is open to the idea of a transfer and prepared to adapt to a new schooling environment.

Can any parents advise me - is it difficult to request for a transfer to the other school at P5 especially on the basis of his badminton ability? Studies-wise, he would be joining the 1st class of his present school. Do i make an appointment to meet the Principal or one typically needs to fill-up a form and wait for the school to respond?

there is no time to wait as your boy is already in P5. go try make an appointment with the school's principal and see if they can/want to take your kid in (be prepared for rejection too). all the best!

Thanks Jedamum! Yes, i shall make haste then!

Hopefully, the Principal wont be too busy to meet me as its the 1st week of school! I took a look at the P1 admission stats for that school for his year and noticed that balloting was needed for even <1km...so guess its a \"fullhouse\" for P5...but i'm still hopeful.. :xedfingers:

We are considering getting DS transferred out of his current Pr school. After trying for parent volunteer and failing and we did not even have a balloting chance as we are not within 1km of any schools, we decided to put him in his current school. We thought oh well, maybe the school may be ok. However, since orientation and now that the school have started, we have our misgivings.

Just to seek some advise or hear from those who have successfully transferred your kids, what do you put as the reason on the waitlist forms?

I cannot put proximity as a reason as our choice schools are no where nearer then the current school. I know the chances are slim but we want to at least try so hoping to get some inputs here.

                Appreciate any suggestions.

i am planning to waitlist my daughter to a more popular school in my area in bukit batok, and they are St. Anthony's, Princess Elizabeth and Keming...Has anyone have experience on being confirmed on it and how long did it actually take? I know it depends on the year and such...but I guess I am just being a \"parent\".. 🙂 Thank you and if anyone can also recommend other schools that is outside of what i mentioned that are close to Bukit Batok area, it will be highly appreciated...

                    thank you

                      Hi Funz,

Perhaps you can state your DS's strengths in certain CCA? When I placed my DS in waitlist and in which he was subsequently successfully being selected, I mentioned that he was very keen in Robotics, and has attended enrichment in this area. As the school has a Robotics Club, that added an advantage in my appln. Just my 2 cents.

                        Hi funz

If all else fails, you can try again after P3 when the GEPers come out of that popular school you want. That’s what happened to my fren’s gal who wanted to join a good school. In the meantime, make sure your kid does well in his current school.
