      Strparent:

We are not like the extreme group like SDP and NSP who keep calling for more cuts, nor those unreasonable group of unhappy no-matter-what netizens who wants the Ministers to earn the equal wage as my neighbourhood charkwayteow uncle.

But I am also not in the 'the-present-situation-suits-me-so-I-don't-want-to-rock-the-boat' type or the 'if-it-aint-broke-why-fix-it' group.
      Ok, fair comment.

Ya ya, same here, strparent, that's why I only visit KSP for political discussions. A lot of crap and vulgarities in some other forums. :siam:

            A bit of both lah......

Dear... you CAN'T have half a monk and half a nun. That's a travesty of nature.

A travesty of nature? Such a creature exists in nature, but I will desist here. 😄

              More great stuff from Mrbrown.com:

Since everyone is doing GraceFu-isms, this is mine:

\"When I made the decision to be mrbrown in 1997, pay was not a key factor. Kena lim kopi by ISD, kena sue until tng kor by ministers and having my newspaper column suspended were. The disruption to my computer gaming time was also an important consideration. I had some ground to believe that my family would not suffer a drastic change in the standard of living but we did have to sell the car and now I ride a bicycle. I fear if the balance is tilted further in the future, I will fall off my bicycle.\" -mrbrown

Yes, there is already a website dedicated to the famous \"When I made the decision…\" post by Grace Fu: http://whenimadethedecision.tumblr.com/
              _______

Boy oh boy, the political industry in Singapore is booming.

                3Boys:

I really don't understand your beef here. Do you or do you not agree with the recommendations?
u r beginning to sound like d Minister (who was moved to look after floods n mosquitoes) when he demanded of d lovely MP Dr Lily Neo \"Wat do u want? u want to eat at a restaurant, foodcourt or HC?\" 😄
                3Boys:
Will the PM know what's going on in the committee? Of course he would! If he did not, it would be the height of incompetence and I would vote him out tomorrow.

So now having known what the comm is thinking, did he seek to influence it? Who knows? Perhaps yes, perhaps no. At the end of the day, he needs to live with the financial and political fall-out from the decision, so what's the big deal either way?
Ok let me put it in another way. It makes a great difference in d final outcome if d committee start with a blank piece of paper compared with one having restrictive terms of references.
IMV, it would hv been better dat d committee review d problem without any encumbrances or restrictive terms of reference, they can still debate on d recommendations in parliament n decide.
D way dis was done is dat d signal has already been sent dat it’s a done deal before any parliamentary debate.
I agree dat dis review is a step in d right direction. But d way dis was done will raise some questions.

                3Boys:
Let me throw you a wild card. Perhaps, just perhaps, he was afraid the comm would be too timid in making the cuts, and personally intervened to get the benchmark lower. How about that? My guess, completely unsubstantiated.....
How about dis? It was LKY who first advocated d hefty pay increases in 1994 citing attracting talent n preventing graft as strong justifications. Dis was reinforced by SME GCT when he was PM. Is PM LHL now going to say his predecessors were wrong? Too deep a cut would make those earlier justifications indefensible. There has to be a political compromise.

I like Mr Brown. He is funny. But I dun like this.

These measures bring a fair amount of harmony to Singaporeans. 3boys, stparent, ksi... myself, concern2. Diverse viewpoints have been heard and integrated into concrete measures. Harping on this does not help. If Grace wanna walk, she will walk. Then we will know her. If she dun walk and contributes like Lily Neo, we will know her.

I know. I have no sense of humour.

It IS funny. :hugs: I was just being prickly. I didn't mean to crash into your feelings either. Forgive.

I see this differently. Different situations call for different measures. Perhaps it had been an effective measure at the start. But things change. It is when the same solution is applied, even when situation has changed, that it becomes ineffective and, possibly, destructive. Perhaps when the measure was first implemented, there had been warning bells, like what 3Boys is trying to do, but people have ignored...perhaps.
