I'm using a mb pro. It's quite light compared to my old laptop. I wanted to have that dvd/cd drive. What if I want to install programmes? I have this MS Office next to me staring me in the face, but I haven't installed it (had bought it on offer and it's good for 3 or 4 users). And like when my kid's teacher passes me a CD of their videos or photos. Then I have to buy a cd drive? Sian, lah.SunBrazen:
My school also gives the option of MacBook Pro or Macbook Air, I would have to say MBP because of the reasons Tankee stated. Btw what school is ur girl in?

You could probably download programmes too, I guess. eg. yesterday I connected my old printer and it just installed itself super quick. Didn't need disc. And didn't need me to go do a net search of the installer programme to download either like when I had my old Windows O/S laptops. Maybe students don't use that many programmes either, altho' for MS Office or Photoshop, often can buy under Students' special price at shops. And those are with installation CD. Not sure if special prices available for online downloads.

Yes, for MB Air, you need and external disk drive for installations using CD ROM, unless you are downloading software/programs from the internet.

For Apple Mac users, it would be advisable to get Microsoft Office for Mac. Then you can use Word, PPT and Excel on Mac. Otherwise, just MS Office alone is not compatible for Apple products

For new Mac converts, it is useful to check out the various video clips/ e-tutorial lessons on Apple website to familiarize with the Mac.

I used to be a Windows user and finally converted to Mac last year. It did take me a while to get used to Mac features but once u get the hang of it, now, there's no turning back. Very user friendly. -

there are some reports or speculation of a possible technical refresh in early 2012. Usually, it is changing the various components like CPU to newer models. Some say maybe a new 15\" model for pro.
Think for students, the 15\" model is a tad too big and cumbersome. Think it's more suited for gamers and maybe IT students - who needs the wider screen for programming. Feel that the 13\" model is good enough and less heavy too compared to the 15\" -
