DS3 just graduated from MFS Bishan. All my 3 kids from MFS. They are basic, no frills, mass market type of childcare. To me, it is good enough to prepare my kids for Pri Sch. Teaching them the "read, write, arithmetic". eg the Han Yu Pin Yin that they teach, is good enough for my kids to have a foundation, to pick up more of it in P1.

The Math also teaches all the basic concepts that they need for P1. Ditto for English & some basic Science.

In P1, kids will be taught by P1 teachers anyway. What they learn builds on what they already know in K2.

I think we don’t need to expect too much from preschools. If our kids already learn P1 things in K2, they will be bored, if things are repeated in P1 again.

I also know that Private preschool teach things like Geography & History, and some higher Science concept like Chlorophyll & Photosynthesis. If you ask these kids about these 1 or 2 years later, they usually don’t remember these anyway.

Hi my daughter just went My 1st Skool at AMK N1, these few days I have been accompanying her and I realised that the problem is she can never sits down together with her peers and she will run to play her own things instead of participating in the group activities. I will be starting work next week and Im scare that she will be the same when I’m not around. Any parents experiencing the same thing?

And also, if my baby has a caregiver who is my mom, is there any need to send her to childcare or enrichment class would do? Pls advise >.< Thanks.

            Hi hongmeiyu79
            Welcome to KSP! :rahrah: :rahrah:

I thk it is vv normal for small kids to wander off in the classroom, esp when they are still so young and naturally curious abt everything and everyone!.. Dont hv to worry so much, they will learn to participate in no time... 😄

Whether to let your mum takes care of of your baby really depends if your mum is willing / hv the time & energy to do so or not. Or you can consider 2-3 hrs N1/N2 playgroup if your concern is for her to interact with other kids and to learn sth, instead of staying at home and play e whole day. So your mum can hv alittle \"time off\" when she goes to playgroup.

                  moonsafarian:
                  Hi all,

I have a concern. My DS is going to the IFC at MFS and during a visit, the P told us that when the babies reach 8-10 months, they no longer provide a cot bed for their naps. Instead, they sleep on child mattress on the floor. I saw 2 mattresses by the wall in the tiny room cramped with 5 cots, and I can't help but feel bad for my child.

And by the time he goes to the IFC, there will be 13 babies altogether. He'll be able to crawl and I'm just imagining, when he wakes up from his nap, and starts crawling around, no one may notice as the teachers will all be in the main room. Besides, the mattress isn't big enough for him to roll over when he flips. Am I unduly worried?

                  Hi moonsafarian,

My soon-to-be-7 months-old gal is at one of MFS infantcare ctr. The P did explain to us the rationale of making babies 7 months and above sleep on the mattress when we toured the ctr before we enrolled her. As they usually can stand by this age, it's safer for them to sleep on the floor in case they stand up and fall out of the cot. As you know especially at infantcare, teachers are unable to watch them all the time.

For the ctr my gal is in, the cots are in a separate room whereas the older babies sleeping on mattresses are outside in the main area but segregated by a door and it is quite spacious. I quite like the layout and arrangement. 😄

As for the 2 concerns you raised - i) about your son waking up and crawl, I think it should be quite safe once he can crawl well. If he needs milk and cries, the teachers will be able to hear him. ii) the size of the mattress; I have seen the standard mattress in my gal's ctr and I find it quite ok. The older babies seem to have no problem sleeping on it. 🙂

                    Hi,

Haven’t logged in here for a while. Thought I just want to share my experiences with MFS @ 331 Sembawang.

My no.2 has been in another childcare in Sembawang Place (which was taken over by another childcare) since 3+. Last Mar, at K1, we transferred him to MFS which is much nearer to our house. Also because the standard at the former place has deteriorated with most of the experience teacher left.

We have been quite impress with the new place in our almost 1 year there. Not sure if it is the teacher or it is the same across all MFS, but we realise his K1 teachers really went the extra mile in teaching them, having many interesting activities (both indoor and outdoor), and bonded very well with all the kids. My son got into the rythme very early and I can see he really enjoyed going to school. He will also related the things that happen in school to us, something which he rarely does in the previous school.

The attitude of the teachers have been superb, and it continues on in K2 this year even though the teachers have changed. I can see that he look forward to going to school (something which he started to drag a few months before we change school).

While they may not be the ‘famous’ pre-school, I feel that with a big organisation behind them, they are able to better plan the lessons and share experiences among teachers of different branch. This is just my humble opinion.

All in all, no regrets, as I look forward to another great year before he goes P1.

                      keltong,

I agree with you.. MFS is actually not bad at all with them in the vicinity being in the neighbourhood.. make it very convenient for us to send/pick them (mine just below my block).. and teachers are always cooperating and feedback on my children development..

DS just started toddler class (2yo) last Month, DD already with MFS since 2YO now in K1.. both are doing well.. DS already can sing songs that were taught in school..just like DD when she joined 2 years plus back..

the principle is always taking feedback and try her best to improve.. importantly they accomodate and friendly.. and yes, teachers are doing their part to teach according to curriculum drive down from MOE..some may said MFS did not prepare kids to P1.. but i feel in any preschool, parents need to do their part too.. prepare or not.. it's also depends on the child+parents+school teacher..

                      my humble opinion heee 🙂
