      Funz:
LKY has really aged a lot since his wife's passing.

      Yes
      He looks so fragile...

I have the utmost respect for Mr KY Lee too. Without him, Spore would not be what it is today. And it’s sad that the younger generation do not realise this. They are just enjoying the fruits of our forefathers’ labor without appreciating or thankful for the sacrifice of our forefathers.

          Dear all,

          I respect your views.
Yet I believe you have the right to know the other side of the truth.
Like the Parable of the Blind Men and the Elephant, I am not denying your side, the contribution and sacrifices he has made, I want to provoke your thought into looking at the other side.
\"A heart of gratitude is a beautiful heart, but lets not forget the rest of the team\"
          \"Success Is Not A One Person Sport\"
\"\"Success Is Not A One man's effort\" (Yes, that includes your wife a woman, vice versa)

          Mr Goh Keng Swee
          Source:
          http://www.pap.org.sg/petir_articlepage.php?id=52&articleid=6744&cid=84
Mr Lee has admitted on different media (after many years), that the man behind many of the excellent projects is actually Mr Goh. PSA, Separation from Malaya, Export, Currency, Defence, Jurong Island, etc. (the list is endless)

Now here is another interesting blog (random search)
          http://leetucksing.wordpress.com/2010/05/16/who-is-dr-goh-keng-swee/

There are many other important key personnel which this post does me allow me the space to include and unfortunately just as the author, I came from schools that only wants me to remember what I should.

          How about Mr Lee's wife?
I believe her love and support for her husband is admirable. \"Being there\" for him at his every moment. Truly \"Till death do us part\"

          What about Mr Lee's parent?
Filial piety is world's number 1. Many of you are parents too. Shouldn't we also be grateful to them?

What am I trying to say?
I have been through different \"world(s)\" Don't take this literally. It means I have seen people hating the same person right to the core (& they have good reasons which I shall not say) and I have seen people who \"worship\" the same person like you folks here do.

I just want to say. When you have gratitude, it would be nicer to also understand.. That success is not just the hard work of a SINGLE ENTITY. There are MANY people (including your parents, grandparents) who have made Singapore success a reality, a possibility. A good leader cease to be a good leader if he does not have responsible, innovative, supportive followers. That is also the reason why I ensure that I treasure all my colleagues and friends. They are what I have become today. I am grateful to both the people who have hurt us and the people who love us.

          Yours truly,
          FusionCat

There is another point I would like to highlight.

Its not that the younger generation do not appreciate nor are they not grateful.
I want to stress a point.

I hope the ladies here understand.
When you nag at your husband, it still shows that you love him, because the day you stop is also the day you give up. That is why I tell a lot of men, please listen and love your wife more when she complaint or nag.

We all have blind spots. True some of us do not have that wisdom or compassion to nag in a wise / kind / constructive way.

That is why the wise always say, we should be grateful to our "enemies" for they are the one that taught us many things and build us up.

For Singapore to remain competitive, we cannot remain complacent.
Singapore is smart to portray positive images (the law of attraction)
Take for e.g. the local media would put Bangkok flood on the front page, but thomson flood at the bottom left (on the same day newspaper).

Positive attracts positive. yet at the same time in this positive images, we HAVE become complacent. Like a frog in the well. Many of our youths are not able to compete globally against foreign talents who have gone through much harder hardship.

I have an ex-supervisor whom I highly respect for his modest, decent, upright nature. He shared on "Fire-Fighting" is not productive. He said that people will only take notice when something "big" happened, unfortunately by then it is already too late.

That is what happened in the recent one-two years. SMRT, flooding, buses, etc. (all which I subconsciously had wished). Not because I want to wish for the worst (like the negative) but I do hope this be a good lesson to us that contentment is good, NOT complacency. To LISTEN.
We are not even aware, that Singapore HAS been overtaken in many areas. There are many statistics out there, you can google yourself. The world’s largest number of billionaire are found in China, Russia, India (as well as other countries which we think are behind us). Lets not go into the colour of the money.

            Take another good example.
I rather my child fail, then to have a borderline pass. I have a primary school friend who was "labelled" to be "hopeless", last in class, class bully, Mono class student etc. He is now very successful, with a 2nd class honour from a local reputable university, while I the "average" still remain average.

My point is we should LISTEN. The day people stop, the day your wife or husband nag, is the day they leave.

Lastly, I believe as parents, teachers, we learn from our students and children too. Never be afraid of being too humble or modest.

            Yours truly,
            FusionCat

              fusioncat,

Everyone knows a coin has 2 sides, this is quite motherhood.
However, nothing is equally weighted, yes a coin has 2 sides but it does not necessarily weigh equally when halved.

Did you think any of the great leaders work alone? Certainly not! Every leader has its own team, otherwise the person is not known as a leader but a loner.

I acknowledge late GKS's contribution and many more in LKY's team with salutation, but that does not diminish the fact that LKY is the conduit to bring the vision to the people. In a team there is always a thinker, an executioner, a communicator and the communicator is key because no matter how a thinker can develop an idea and an executioner can put it to work, it still needs to be sum up by a good communicator to distribute the information to everyone with leadership qualities that people wants to follow, this is charisma. It is teamwork but he is always at the apex to drive and when it comes to pressure, he will get it first as well. He makes mistakes but he is only human.

I do not worship LKY, I only worship God. I believe it is basic human decency to treat him with the respect he deserves like his team especially as he ages and faces many aging factors and constraints, otherwise it actually reflects poorly on ourselves as a person with no basic human decency. We cannot be raving about the good times of a leader and side-step a leader when they are on a declining curve, that really makes us a disgusting group of people as a nation. Graciousness...

Also, LKY is nowhere near a 秦始皇 (a well-known tyrant) and yet 秦始皇 is well remembered for his great contribution to China for building the infrastructures and the Great Wall until today. So I cannot agree with this statement for retired leaders:

A good leader cease to be a good leader if he does not have responsible, innovative, supportive followers

This statement only shows that we continue to demand highly of others but never self.

Dear fusioncat, I know where you’re coming from though I may not totally agree with your views (except the part when you said the day when a wife stops nagging at her hsuband is the day she gives up on him).

But you have your rights to your own view and you put it across in an unhostlle manner, which is good. Let’s agree to disagree. And like what ksi said, give Mr LKY his due respect. After all, we will all grow old some day.

Agree with ksi. I respect him for all the good works he has done for our country and am grateful for his contribution to our nation. I don’t feel the same for the current team though for their motivation is very different.
