Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)

hello everyone, am new here but have been reading loads of very good info…wondering for the ACS (I) IP Y3 intake, there are 100 places available for students within ACS (I) based on the school IP webpage, which make it a fairly large%, if you go with 100 / 369 = 27%, of the express students that will enter IP track in Yr3? Or there are other sources of students (international/foreign) getting into Y3 IB? if yes, what is the likely % over the years?
I got the number of 369 express students based on total Y1 intake at 520 (the classs list published on 30 Dec 11, but don’t see it anymore in the homepage) with IP students at around 151 (1.12-1.17). thank you -

Any reason why the school needs to have 2 sets of time-tables? And even though school supposedly finishes at 1.20pm on Wednesdays, my DS's time-table for week B has him finishing at 2.40pm instead and he was late for his 3rd Language class.
The reason for this is greater time-tabling flexibility.
Examples:
If the school has decided to allocate 3.5 periods for a subject, it can be 4 periods in Week A and 3 in Week B for one class — and the other way around for another class. Also, it means that a class need not always suffer 'last period syndrome', where some poor teacher always has the last period of the day and everyone is tired — now that can be alternated with some other poor teacher.
Essentially, if you have a 10-day cycle to play around with instead of a 5-day cycle, you can do lots more. Or at least, that's what I thought when I decided to do it that way; I got the idea of the 10-day cycle from one school and the 20-min increment from another school and put the two concepts together.
So the best way to handle it is to think of it as a fortnightly timetable, rather than a weekly one... -

Can you enlighten me why there is a constant need for the Overseas Educational Program yearly? My year 4 son just went off this morning for his. He is getting a little 'tired' of it especially the need to travel a few hours to the place.
Looking at the program which comprises of some Jungle survival skills, adventure course, obstacle course and raft building and sea rafting, i am just wondering why the school can't held such training in Singapore like Pulau Ubin?
And it is not cheap either .
Thanks for your help. -

There are around 45 scholarship students intake Y3 2012. 30 students from ASEAN, around 15 from China.hello everyone, am new here but have been reading loads of very good info...wondering for the ACS (I) IP Y3 intake, there are 100 places available for students within ACS (I) based on the school IP webpage, which make it a fairly large%, if you go with 100 / 369 = 27%, of the express students that will enter IP track in Yr3? 21 students got IB track. -

With regards to point 2, there is no bonus point for affiliation. The affiliation points are only applicable for ACJC.
1. Yes, re 3rd language.ngbrdad:
From the time table it seems both week A and B all finish at 2.40.
So ACSI students can only choose the later time slot for 3rd language ?
In the JAE exercise, the cut off for admission to ACSI IB is 5 right ?
Is there any bonus points for affiliation ?
2. The COP for admission to any school depends on 'market forces'. So far, this has been around 5-6 for ACS(I) IBDP in recent years. Yes, there are bonus points for affiliation, just as with ACJC. -

What about the transfer from express to IP for ACSI students ?

For 2012 year 3, is it 100 ?
Or 100-81 = 79 ?
And regarding the scholarship students in O level track from sec 3, are they the ones that ace the O level ?
Usual standard for Asean Scholars should be at least 6A1s and above.
Not sure about China Scholars but standard should be around the same right ? -
bigfoot:
Even for ACSI student ?

Bonus point for HMT should apply then ?
So max L1B5 for someone without HMT is 7 ? -
ngbrdad:
Yes, even for ACS(I) O levels students. This is because ACS(I) is already affiliated to ACJC. In addition, ACS(I) IBDP needs to open more places for students in other schools. The COP for last year was partial 5 (meaning some students with 5 points may not get in). As for bonus points, you can use HMT (2 points) and CCA (2 points).

Thanks again.
If I'm not wrong, it's Y1 compulsory OM, Y2 compulsory something else (I think it's still the business module) and 2 free options. Four in total.unclebao:
Thanks autolycus.
Just to clarify
- excluding the compulsory \"Odyssey of the Mind\", are they left with only 3 free courses?
The courses are quite interesting and enriching for school boys. I wish ACS(I) can consider to let the students to take 2 per year throughout the 4-6 school years. -
What do the year 1 boys do for "Odyssey of the Mind"?
