      Hi all,

      my son born in 2007 we are staying in Pasir Ris.

      If i would like to register him for Pasir Ris Primary School, which is more then 2km from home, so when should i start doing school’s voluntary work?

      How do we know whether the PV are open? any website to check?

        hi busybody,

        up to 2009:
        RGPS total 10 classes (300 pupils).
        all phase 2B PV got in smiling with joy happily, no need ballot.

        2010:
        Total still 10 classes (300 pupils).
        but for first time in history - balloting start. Many taken aback.

        2011:
        start to reduce intake to 9 classes (270 pupils)
        preparing 2016 Single session.
        8 PV applicants balloted out.

        for phase 2C:
        there was no chance of balloting, for those staying more than 2km.
        All vacancies were snapped up by those staying within 1km, for past 2yrs.

        monitor closely 2012 signal trend.
        (MOE announce by end June 2012).

        i) if 2012 intake (2006 batch) remain at 9 classes, 2013 (our turn) likely to remain 9 classes.

        ii) but if 2012 intake (2006 batch) further cut to 8 classes, 2013 possiblilty reduce to 7 classes.

        any further query, may call up or email Ms. Felicia Quek, Head of Parent Volunteers:-

        for 2014 P1 Term 1 first 3 days
        ==================================
        for P1 take off first 3 days, you may sign up to volunteer help out:-
        it is called the Teacher's helpers, for intial first 3 days only. 🙂

        duties
        ========
        basically collect books from the children, according to a list given to the children on what to bring for the first day -
        Activity books, Exercise books, yellow file, report card, health booklet, photograph ...

        Not all children will bring all books to school.
        so you have to keep track of which child did not bring what, follow up over the next 2 days.

        We also help our Chinese P1 teachers paste the \"spelling content page (for parents signature)\"
        into a small exercise book.

        may sound simple, but these are already enough to keep us occupied. 🙂
        Oh yes, also need to accompany girls go toilet (if needed).

          Quick! Call the school and ask!

          You should be performing PV duties from July 2012 - June 2013 (date is guideline only...different schools have different requirement) in order to qualify for phase 2B registration in 2013. So selection process might have already started!

              I am new here!! wave wave … Can I check with you all? if my home address is more than 2km from the school and i am currently the school PV … am i under phase 2B? They will look at the fact that I am a PV instead of my distance already right?

                Yes, you are definitely under 2B.

                phase 2B include:-
                - parent volunteers from individual school.

                - grassroot community leaders from GRC.

                - church members from Methodist / Anglican / Presbyterian / Roman Catholic mission churches.

                - Hokkien clan members, from clan related schools.

                all the above people are thrown into the same pool, phase 2B.
                in the event of balloting (happen once demand exceeds vacancies), they will check distance. Are you:-

                < 1km,
                within 1 to 2km, or
                > 2km ?

                example:
                ==========
                suppose there are only 5 vacancies left, but many applicants.
                suppose under <1 km (got 6 applicants), within 1 to 2 km (10 applicants), > 2 km (12 applicants).

                in this case, balloting required!
                only those < 1 km are allowed to ballot -
                ie. 6 applicants to compete for 5 seats. one unlucky child will be out.

                the other 2 groups: ( within 1 to 2 km and > 2 km) - no chance to ballot.
                they have to try other schools.

                how is balloting conducted ?
                ===============================

                tiny slips of white paper bearing child's name & particulars are folded up neatly. The name of each child is flashed onto an overhead projector, before all parents seated inside the room. As each slip of paper is being flashed, parents to verify data of own child's particulars on the spot.

                after flashing, each paper is dropped into a huge transparent glass box. After all slips are dropped in, the box is shaken up real hard up and down, left and right several times, to ensure that is evenly properly mixed.

                for a Singapore born citizen child - 2 slips of paper are placed into the box.

                for a PR born child - only 1 slip of paper is placed into the box.

                a guest of honour is then invited to come up the front, perform \"lucky draw dip\". As the name of each child is being called out one by one, that important slip of paper bearing your child's name, IC, registration number - is hung up immediately next onto a white board. Balloting process continue ... until the last name is drawn.

                parents, during balloting, be alert. don't chit chat, engrossed in sending sms.
                the Chinese name of your child may sound similar to another child's Chinese name, esp. when child does not have English Christian name.
                example: Chen Wei Ling and another child, Chen Wai Ying.

                there was a past incident where the school nearly picked up a wrong student's slip & was about to hang onto the white board, until an alert mother shout out in the nick of time \"Stop! you just called out my child's name!\"

                if this mother was not present there physically to rectify the error immediately on the spot, the child whose name was not called out would have got into the school, instead of that child whose name had been correctly called out.

                once balloting complete with all the names hung up onto the white board, parents can go forward, take snapshot photograph. You may capture & paste this precious, memorable, priceless moment into your child's photo album Life journey - record his / her first maiden flight take off into Primary 1. When child grow up, each time he flip through photo album, he's reminded with gratitude & Thankfulness, how his Dad & Mom fought hard for him, help him get into the school.

                      But I thought that you only have a DS born in 2007, I’m wondering how you know so much about P1 registeration?
