No offence, I'd just like to ask who is learning to play musical instruments? Or if you're a parent, I'd just like to ask if your dd or ds is learning to play musical instruments. I know how to play the piano, violin and flute, along with the recorder that they make us learn in pri school. I also like to sing.

My family is quite musical, by the way. My mother is a pianist, my father is a conductor and my two elder sisters are violinists. I'm planning to be either a flautist or a pianist.

At school, my CCA is Chinese orchestra. Under chinese orchestra, there is guzheng. I learn guzheng. Who learns guzheng, anyway? 🙂

      ----------------------------------
Wow, so you play the piano as well? And learn the flute too? As well as gushing? Your father is a conductor of western or chinese orchestra?

Among our 4 kids, we have piano, violin/viola, erhu. I myself play the piano but not professional. Kids have a keener ear.

I only started learning the violin last year and I'm in the mid thirties. I have always wanted to learn how to play the violin when I was young, but because of the financial difficulties of my family then, I didn't have a chance to. I hope my son will be able to help me fulfill my dreams. And he did.

My son attended the Suzuki Violin class which required one parent's participation as well. I volunteered as my hubby travels quite a bit. After my son's third Suzuki violin lesson, there was no turning back. I found my own teacher and started taking my own lessons, 1 to 1 basis.

Passed ABRSM Grade 1 violin practical last September with Distinction and now my teaching is pushing me to clear my Grade 5 theory this year, together with Grade 3 practical. My teacher is a slavedriver!

I have to thank my son for letting me fulfill my dream. We are both taking 1 to 1 lesson but with different teachers. I have the best of both worlds as my son's teacher is more towards the classical part (I sit in together during his lesson, pay 1 person's fees, 2 person learning!) whereas my teacher is more of the agressive and the not-so-classical type of violinst.

Love the violin like crazy :please: even though at times I'm so frustrated with intonations! :slapshead:

Oh, thanks, \"annchee\". I'm not looking for a music school nor for those childhood music programmes. I was asking if \"princesskaris\" considers Serangoon Gardens as \"in the north\", bc my 3yo goes to a school there for violin and piano and I find the teaching very suitable for him.

I've decided to make learning to play piano as one of my resolutions this year! Like you sweetpea44, I've always loved to play the piano (yours is violin) but family circumstances didn't allow. Now that I see DD learning piano, the musical passion in me is rekindled. I can play the piano by ear (with no formal training, through trial and error), so decide to learn from a trained teacher to play properly and learn to read music notes.

Your experience has inspired me that it's never too late to learn anything! 🙂
