i saw \"My Little Campus\" at Bishan childcare centre give spelling at K1.

School give spelling, go topic by topic based on theme.

example:
a) garden
ask child to spell the names of flowers in the garden: rose, lily, ixora, orchid, hibiscus, sunflower, tree, plant.

b) classroom
ask child to spell things seen in a classroom:-
teacher, pupil, duster, pencil, ruler, eraser, etc.

but ting xie can't recall have or not.

then come K1 Term 4,

first, the kid look at 4 pictures in a box.
next, ask kid to write down the sequence of events - which picture should come in correct sequence as number 1, 2, 3, 4 ? (ie. testing child on the logical sequence of events happening)

after that, child must read out 5 sentences aloud.
draw a line to match the number sequence to each of the sentence read.

then after labeling the sequence, ask child to copy out 5 sentences onto a 60 cents exercise book ===> ie. turn it into a \"5 line\" simple essay compo. Then teacher ask them read aloud all the 5 lines written. some wrote with ugly handwriting, some wrote neatly.

different childcare / kindergarten got different standard.

i dun think is behind so now K1 mostly can write alhabets and numbers… some can write their chinese name… but as in spelling… many not yet, which is normal… they are still in the phonics stage…unless give them spelling (learn by hard type),

My DD1 last year in K1 also got spelling. Go by theme, so got 狮，虎，鸭 in term 2, 动物，农场 etc in term 3. Teach until Peng San, paper soaked with her tears. Then some other parents feed backed about it. They have no 听写 in term 4. Now my DS1 in K1, only got spelling, no news of 听写 yet.

woah.. K1 writing so difficult chinese words?? too much lor.. they are suppose to recognise words more than writing such difficult words..

my friend's child at Brighton Montessori kindergarten standard also very high.


K1 also start spelling.
K2 the Chinese tingxie very complex - not word by word anymore, but ting xie in complete full sentence, each Han zi with complex strokes.

example of their Chinese tingxie in full sentences (K2):-

c) i stay near my school.

K2 - spelling: also dun just ask child to spell out word by word,
but write out in complete full sentences, with Capital letter beginning and full stop at end.

my friend’s child started P1 3 weeks ago.

she said Brighton montessori preschool prepared her son confidently for P1.

so the kids no need go for enrichment liao…

for her son, because Brighton montessori childcare starts from 7 am, she pick her son up evening 6 pm. So weekday Mon to Fri, no enrichment. Sat & Sun weekend - she fetch her son for violin, swimming, Artistic gym training by China coach who is strict, at one of the Singapore Sports Hall.
