gorilla, that is the problem. She has a fairly good breakfast (one muffin and one piece of cake or two pieces of bread + milk) at 8.30am and 10.45am is too early for lunch. But I am not inclined to wake her up earlier just to eat as she is tired from afternoon school, so I will leave it. She seems fine till recess though. Also the drinks stall at the canteen has the shortest queue, so my dd buys drinks once in a while… wow, u pack rice? Is it homecooked or from outside? Mine gets home at 7.10pm, showers and may even do her homework before dinner at 8ish.

It's homecooked. Hubby will collect the rice from my caregiver's place before picking DD from sch. 8+ for dinner, think will be too late for DD. May be that explains the difference in size, your DD and mine!

I live in Yishun. There's a school bus but the problem is she'll need to spend 1.5hrs in the bus. She's the 1st to be picked up although her caregiver's place is on the 'outer part of Yishun'. If you're familiar with Yishun, caregiver's place is near Khatib which the bus starts and moves to Yishun central then comes back to Khatib again before proceeding to sch. Tried talking to the bus operator about the route but all I get it 'it's like that one lah'.

Was hopefully the 2nd bus operator could give a better timing but too bad they backout last minute.

Hi Gorilla. I'm pretty familiar with Yishun. The arrangement is almost similar to my daughter's. I was quite worried as to how it will affect her initially but she's adapted very well since last year.

She's the first to be picked up at 10.50am and the last to be dropped off at 7.30pm. I think she's adjusted well to this arrangement. We feed her brunch at about 10am and packed her some snacks or sandwitches, which she normally keeps it for her return journey home. The brunch is sufficient to fill her till her recess time.

For me, I'm super thankful that there's a bus operator that wants to ply this route as there were none before this and I'm fortunate enough to have a bus driver that is so reliable. He'll call my wife or myself to remind us if there's any single session, etc. He even told off some of the P2 girls who were teasing/bullying my daughter and reported it to the ops mgr of the school when it persisted. Everything's cool now and my girl enjoys her ride to & from school.

I hope your daughter will be able to adjust to this schedule well. Give it ssome time and it should be OK I reckon.

Glad to hear that your DD has adapted well to the sch bus. Her pick up time is almost the same as my DD and I believe Yishun is much nearer than Pasir Ris. I was also a sch bus rider and was picked up at an ungodly hour of 5:30am!

You’re lucky to have a good and reliable driver. The same can’t be said of the bus rider that picks my DD. My DD told me she’s the only one who belt up and the girls walk freely in the bus. Even the bus aunty was not nice! My daughter tried to tell her she was cold (she wasn’t feeling well) but she simply ignored her. My daughter only took the bus on the 1st day and already came home telling me about P2 ‘verbally bullying the P1’. As such, we decided on the alternative transport which will costs us more but at least I’ll have peace of mind.

Gorilla, my dd eats alot of cakes/muffins (which I bake), but the fats seem to disappear :rotflmao: Its great she gets a home cooked dinner :rahrah: then what do you and your hubby do for dinner? Does your dd's caregiver also cook dinner for you both?

Didn't know that some school buses are so terrible! I took the ride on day 1 with my dd and the primary twos all seem fairly friendly and welcoming.

michyms, I love cakes & pastries but not my elder DD. She’s a huge fan of rice though. Yes, DD’s caregiver cooks dinner for hubby and I. We reckon, DD will be hungry so thought it’ll be good to give her dinner straight away rather than a snack and risk her not eating dinner later. That was what happened to my nephew last year. He’ll take something while on his way home and by then won’t be able to eat his dinner.


U were allowed to ride in the sch bus with DD? That’s very nice of the driver. It was a no no for the Yishun bus.

Yeah, that thought also crossed my mind when my daughter goes into thee morning session. Rather than having the school bus pick her up at such early hours, I’m hoping by then I should be able to send her to school instead and have the bus drop her off at home.

Glad to hear that you got alternative mode of transportation for your daughter.

Hi Gorilla, thanks for reply. My dd is rather shy and is always waiting for others to make the first move :-(. Thanks for getting your dd to befriend her, I will encourage her to mix around with frens. I understood some kids starting arts CCA soon… I have not heard anything from teacher about acceptance of CCA, have you?
