And the bit about no point barring banks from loaning the Coe portion.
Sounds like make sense but I still miss the point. Too many angry birds, I probably ‘pa jiao’ so miss the mark.
If people can’t loan Coe portion, would they still allow car companies to make sky high bids for that piece of paper?
Praying my car will still last another few good years. -

Turn off all ERP gantries for 3 mths and monitor. Then we can see if it really does help manage congestion.

Just like raising GST to 'help the poor'.
Just like flooding happens only 'once in 50 years'
Just like raising HDB flat price and trying to sell koyok to us that it is an asset -
one report said it was $400 million collected over 3 years :yikes:
cash cow /goose that lays golden eggs  -
Personally I think the gantries cannot deter 100% of people from changing their original mind of entering congested areas. These people primarily has money or couldn’t afford to lose much time. Therefore, they paid the gantry fee and enter the congested areas. In this sense, to cynic out there, ERP gantries has no effect to relieve congestion and is merely a cash generating measures.
Notwithstanding the above, there is always 2 sides to a coin and if I may, there will be people who does not want to pay the gantry fee and they also can afford to adjust their travel plan, hence, they stay away from the congested areas during peak hours. That being the case, the policy makers would say ERP serve its purpose.
How should we view this? To me, you can never please everyone. However, the government needs money to run the country. Instead of S$159m collected from ERP gantries how I wish more money can be collected. After all, whoever can afford to own a car is presumed to be doing well reasonably.
Imaging helping our poorer fellow Singaporeans just by driving through the ERP gantries so that the money collected can be distributed via Growth dividends, New Singapore Shares, HDB utilities rebates, free school fees, CPF top up, health care subsidy, public assistance scheme, unemployment trainings, child care subsidy, etc.
Unless some genius out there think government don’t need to have money to run the country, if not, I say nothing wrong with ERP gantries. If we have surpluses, more growth dividend for poorer folks or put it in reserve. Too much is collected from ERP gantries? ERP fees too high? Hard to say how much is enough right? So similar to ministerial salary debate!!! -

If this 159m is not revenue, then what is it?
Did you read also on the amount collected from stamp duties due to housing transactions?
