Does every teacher has the blog or only 1c has the blog. Thanks for providing the information.

I m not sure if all classes has a class blog but for 1C, Ms Soh shared that is it a personal class blog which managed by her only, hence for subjects not under her teaching, she will not be able to post the information. If we have any doubts, we can email the subject teacher directly which is avail on the timetable pasted in pupil's diary 😄

Hi there… could anyone please provide me with some review on the school? Positive/negative feedback on areas of student mix, teacher quality, disciplinary situation, emphasis on academic vs CCAs… would be greatly appreciated…

            Thanks!

              Thanks!
              Hi lynette_sara,

my boy is only P1 this yr, i definitely do not have the full coverage of the school end-to-end \"performance\". But nothing is perfect so here's my 2cts views on 3 months experience with the school 😄

              Students
i see a good mix of students from many different countries, most prob bcos of non citizen/PR, they don't stand a good chance of entering popular schools.

i saw many cycle or walk to school, which means they are staying at nearby landed properties. Shorter traveling dist make more sense to them as well.

the school intake is small (180) for P1 this yr, ie. there are only 6 classes of 30 students ea. During school orientation day, I can remember most of the P1 students' faces in ea class.

              Teachers
For my boy's teachers (Form teacher, Math, MT, PE, etc ...), they are rather quick in replying my queries (mostly email) but whether their replies convincing or not will be a separate matter.

I have nephews who are now P5 and P2 in a SAP school, if I compare, the school/homework issued to my boy are very much inline with the textbook standard and pace, whereas my nephews usually will come back with more challenging work and move slightly faster than regular pace.

Also, my boy teachers are not \"aggressive\" in giving online assignments compared to other schools. Honestly not all students' parents are IT savvy, teachers usually will have to make alternative arrangement for students without PC or Internet access at home to complete their work at school computer lab.

:scratchhead: hmmmm... but does tougher exercises or faster pace benefit for all students?

              Curriculum
Initiatives from MOE which had yet to deploy in islandwide school, PAL ( http://www.moe.gov.sg/media/press/2010/09/developing-skills-and-values.php ) is running in OEPS. My boy loves PAL lessons :imcool:

There are also enrichment classes conducted by external vendors. During term 1, they are having English Speech and Drama and Chinese speech and drama for term 2. Err ... these are not free, but can opt to deduce from Edusave.

Of cos, all these new introductions translate to longer curriculum hours :snooze:(7:30am - 1:30pm) and late lunch.

There are also a number of online platforms (some are on opt-in subscription) made available for students. My nephews school offers the same platforms too.

              CCA
my boy is in table tennis club , where CCA is optional for P1 and P2, many parents choose not to put their kids in CCA till P3 due to various reasons. Common reasons I heard are transport and \"no time\".

From my understanding, most schools only have CCA for 1 day but OEPS CCA are conducted on both Tue and Thur , 2-4pm, meaning students will have to stay back for 2 days excluding other classes (if any).

              Disciplinary
If we see a pri school without children chasing one another before/after school or during recess time, that gonna to be worrying 😓 Beside teachers, I do see non-aca staff patrolling, issue warning to students.

There are duty staff during recess time to ensure proper queuing, handling of food and returning of used plates/bowls, etc. There is also teacher on duty with students traffic monitor before and after school at the school main road. Many times I saw the principal at the main road (under hot sun) talking to parents with cars jamming up the traffic.

              ************
I have my lil sharing helps 😄

                Hi,

I was just balloted out of Red Swastika and would like some reviews of OEPS. I went to check out the sch environment and seem like a very quiet and peaceful place. Could someone tell me more about this sch? The good and the bad? I have to make my choice next week and I hope to make a good enough choice. I am deciding between Bedok Green and OEPS. Pls pls give some advice. Thanks.

                  Hi Happyvon

I have the same problem as you last year. My girl was balloted out of Red Swastika in phase 2C and again out of Bedok Green in phase 2C(S). In next week’s registration, most of the parents will register at Bedok Green becos of the convenience. You will need to go through another round of balloting again if you decide to register at Bedok Green.

I have no regrets putting my girl in OEPS. She enjoys going to school. She has no problem adjusting to P1 from the start of the school term. I believe the school has also done their part to assist the newbies to adjust to P1 life. She enjoys going to school.

                    Hi lwj,

Oh, u were balloted out of Bedok Green during phase 2CS? This is my fear. I can’t take another balloting failure. Nearly got heart attack. Now BGPS left only 39 places while OEPS left 82. I am within 2km from OEPS but within 1km to BGPS. Tough decision.

So, ur girl is happy coz teachers & classmates are nice? Do they drill students or just let them learn at average pace? What are some areas that you like abt the Sch & what are some areas that u feel they could do better?

                      Hi

I was superstressed during the phase 2CS balloting. Nearly broke down when my girl was balloted out.

My girl likes her form teacher the best. There are no exams for P1 & P2, however, they will have 2 tests for each subject in each term, which I find it useful as this will be a gage on whether your child is catching up in the school work. There are also enrichment programs in each term which are conducted during curriculum hours. Term 1 - English Speech & Drama, Term 2 - Chinese Speech & Drama and Term 3 - Maths enrichment.

                        Hi

1st time posting here. My son is balloted out from Kong Hwa yesterday. I feel so devastated and heart breaking. Cried the whole day yesterday and even now.

I am also considering placing my son in OEPS. I personally don’t have many good opinions of OEPS but I am not sure if it is due to my judgemental opinions and biasedness.

I really wonder why this school has such low takeup rate. I personally don’t think it’s the inaccessibility because I stayed there so I know it’s not. Are there really good teachers in OEPS who will groom the children? I would really hope to see teachers putting in the extra effort to come up with challenging questions and work for bright kids to groom them to their potential instead of just following what are in the textbooks.
