Hi mum.com,
Hi 3993, is your DS in 1O4, please? or are all (most?) the classes also told to learn the 4 songs otherwise gets transferred to Q class? :faint:3993:
Hi Lion_king,
Finally someone shares the same thought. For me, I just don't understand why the school emphasize some much on the chinese songs. DS has been worried about being sent to Q class if he can't master the songs. Even the adults have problem reading the chinese characters. My DH and I are seriously thinking of transferring him to another school.
No, my DS not in 1O4. His teacher did not say anthing about Q class, but some boys were given demerit points for not being able to sing. My DS, DH and I are reading KS forum everyday...so we know the consequences of not mastering the chinese songs....
I can only say my DH and I are really KS parents :hugs: -

Thanks, mum.com
iComP can be found under Portals in HCI website. Under Parents Portal, iComP is there.3993:
For projects day , must my DS use the i - COMP portal to sign up ???
If so , how do I log in to the i - COMP ?
User ID is BC/NRIC number (S1234567A)
Password.. by default is also your DS BC/NRIC number (full caps).
They are advised to change their password.. mine has changed.. not sure if your DS has also changed his password.

The anxiety comes more from parents who do not know the rationale behind it. For those who slack and fail due to too much gaming, or for whatever reason, they go Q class in yr 3 to get more \"attention\" and if they still dun 'wake up' they go Q class in yr 4 to get prepared for 'O' level rather than have to leave for another sec sch or leave IP without a qualification for poly or else where.
What's Q class? Why the anxiety over being sent there?ycpang:
Dr Hon will be on National headline news if someone got posted to Q class because he can't sing. LOL
Relax lar, the boys are singing as a group so long he opens his mouth he sure pass one lar. -

So Q class only comes about in Year 3 right? In essence an O level class for those who may fare better at O levels rather than IP.

:thankyou: for advice.Hi Jeannie12,
I dont know which CCA has better chance. My advice is;
1. Go for the trials as early as u can. Bcoz they might already shortlisted enough ppl and just through the motion for those late comers. Eg. My DS table tennis trial.
2. Do not take it 100% for sure if the coach or senior tell u that u are \"in\". I have seen many surprises already. Some kids stop going for trials after one CCA told them they are \"in\". They are seriously going to have a big problem later. So go for as many trials as possible. -
There will be a friendly water polo match this afternoon between HCI & ACS Barker at HCI pool at 2.30pm…
Those who are interested in taking up waterpolo as CCA and parents may like to catch them in action… -

Mastering the school song is definitely a must for ALL schools although your DS' school song happen to be in Chinese. As for the other Chinese songs, I believe if your son showed efforts, it should be sufficient. Isn't Q class more for those weak in studies after Year 2? what has Chinese songs got to do with being kicked out into Q class :? Probably a threat by teachers.

SAP schools are very particular about Chinese. I saw from RV thread that 'the P recently asked students who scored D7 and below for their HCL O Level to leave the school and asked them to write an appeal letter in Chinese to persuade him to let them stay. Those who scored C5/6 were required to write a letter to tell the principal to let them keep their 4H2'. Such is the high standard the HCI and RV families place on Chinese. Don't forget the busloads of China scholars arriving by Year 3 - to survive among them, better brush up Chinese standards

The school song has both Eng and Chinese version just as in primary SAP schools. In HCI, those who are weak in HCL will be asked to attempt CL 'o' level in yr 3.
