friendship:
Don't think there is space for local girls in the hostel. They are meant for foreign scholars.RJC the uniform for girls is white blouse and green skirt, isn't it?
Is it a mandatory to stay in the hostel for a year? -
hi everyone!

I understand from the above few posts several issues.
1) sec1 parents fretting about the CCAs their daughters are getting into
I would just like to say that the CCA you are in doesn't really matter, its about how you make the best of the situation. I daresay there are many students who get slotted into CCAs they did not rank their 1st choice, but yet over time, they grow to love it. So really, its about going into the CCA with an open mind!
2) the whole \"banding\" in RGS
To be honest, the rationale for banding into GE and non GE classes is simply because we learn differently- GE students enjoy more of class discussions and interactions with the teachers, while non GE students like lectures more! However after 2 years in RGS, both sides will kind of adapt and reach a compromise in terms of learning style, which is why, when you get to Sec3, there is only banding based on your subject combinations and whether or not you take a RA for convienience in timetabling. Of course, there will be 1 or 2 \"rojak\" classes, as there are bound to be people who do not take conventional combinations! Within ourselves, there are definitely comparisons- especially at EYAS: teachers will show the breakdown of average marks per class and all!
but it doesn't really matter whethere you are in a \"good\" or \"bad\" class, because the teachers you get are equally good and so long as you work hard it'll be fine!
3) asking about leadership boards
I just wanted to say, will this all matter? 20 years down the road, you won't be selecting boyfriends based on whether or not he was a prefect/PSL right!
I guess one thing I have to say to my juniors/ juniors parents- don't get overly caught up in the rat race!
I guess all these may seem important right now, but just take a step back and look at the bigger picture. It is already an extreme privelege to be an RGS girl, so perhaps we should be grateful over that, and not moan over lack of leadership positions! I mean, I'm not stopping you if you have the passion to serve, to give back to the school, but if you're doing it just for your resume.... I urge you to consider why having a nice resume is so important to you!
Sorry if this post sounds harsh or whatever :x
Happy Lunar New Year everyone!

Well said! I remembered Mrs Hoo mentioned during Orientation.....not to compare with others but to compare with our better self.Besides, why compare?
In my opinion, our girls are already in one of the top schools in the nation. That in itself is already a remarkable feat!
