I believe Tanjong Katong Girls School (TKGS) has about 40-50 girls doing MEP , in lower sec, there were split into 2 classes.
Nahh, there are only about 30 mep students in each level...
So only 15 people in each class in lower secondary? ( :siao: ) -
Hi everyone,
There is a difference between MEP and Music at ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels.
The MEP is taken from Sec 1 - 4.
The Music at ‘O’ level programme is taken from Sec 3 - 4.
There are many other secondary schools offering Music at ‘O’ level: Chung Cheng High Main, Anglican High, Catholic High etc.
If you are looking at IP schools, Temasek JC offers MEP in their 4-year IP programme which leads to MEP at ‘A’ Levels. They also offer TJC music scholarships to those who take the MEP. For JC applicants, there is DSA through MEP. They will begin their 6-year MEP programme from 2013.
National JC also offers a 6-year music programme which leads to Music at ‘A’ levels.
I think in most schools, a certificate is not everything. They may demand an audition, I heard. Or even a diagnostic test. -

Yes i agree totally with you. :goodpost:

Not all schools require an audition/test. I also realise that not all schools' MEP programmes are run at the same level. Most MEP teachers would gauge each year's cohort's standard, and adjust their programme slightly to fit that cohort. As such, some schools would just do the audition/test to see the standard of the cohort, and not as an entry requirement. That is what is done in NJC. I do know that in St Nic's, it is used as an entry, while in CHS, the tests are only used if the student which applied is not considered by the teachers-in-charge to be 100% suitable for MEP.
National JC also offers a 6-year music programme which leads to Music at 'A' levels.

Some schools like NJC or NYGH are not specifically MEP centres. So altho' their programmes are run along the lines of MOE's guidelines, they do not have the cross-exchange programmes with other MEP centres (altho' I don't know how often that even takes place). I do know that NJC's cohort for MEP is generally small, and it's quite interesting as they explore ensemble performances from the very start in Sec 1. The MEP students form various combinations of ensemble groups from Duos to Quartets with students within their level, or even across levels. Juniors working with Seniors (from sec 1 to JC2s) provides a very good experience not only for performing but for coordination, and it's a great learning platform. The juniors will learn and improve lots by working with seniors. There are quite a number of opportunities for performing - sometimes just for fun, eg. lunchtime concerts, annual MEP concert, external performances like at esplanade concourse or library.... -
pardon me, what will the MEP result/score used for? for O level, A level?

It is a humanities subject. Can be used in computation of your L1R5 for O-levels. For A-levels, it can be taken as humanities subject as well. -

Hi,
Pardon my ignorance, but if I haven’t meet the minimum requirement of MEP (not grade 3 yet), can I still go? Appeal?
I have visited the MOE web and they say that there is some "audition"?
Please help, for it is PSLE for me this year and I am very keen on this programme.
I have only started learning instruments in primary 5 (term 3) but I have consistenly achieved quite good results in Music in school.
Thank you. -

Can you elaborate more on 'achieved quite good results in Music in school'? because MEP students will study deeper for example: Composers in a Particular Era, Intervals, Ornaments, Reading Music Scores,Aural etc.
As a MEP student here,(currently grade 6) i can tell you that they are not easy.
I am here not to discourage you, but to give you some infomation about it.
Or... if you are really passionate :please: , No PROBLEMS!
Why don't you quickly take a grade 3 exam (theory+practical). It is (i think) a must.
But... if you feel that MEP is stressful after you chose it, you can't quit...
(im sure you'll know this)
