It is a humanities subject. Can be used in computation of your L1R5 for O-levels. For A-levels, it can be taken as humanities subject as well.

            Hi,

Pardon my ignorance, but if I haven’t meet the minimum requirement of MEP (not grade 3 yet), can I still go? Appeal?
I have visited the MOE web and they say that there is some "audition"?
Please help, for it is PSLE for me this year and I am very keen on this programme.
I have only started learning instruments in primary 5 (term 3) but I have consistenly achieved quite good results in Music in school.
            Thank you.

What is the difference between Music and Higher Music at ‘O’ levels?

                Hello! 😄
Can you elaborate more on 'achieved quite good results in Music in school'? because MEP students will study deeper for example: Composers in a Particular Era, Intervals, Ornaments, Reading Music Scores,Aural etc.
As a MEP student here,(currently grade 6) i can tell you that they are not easy. 🦆 I am here not to discourage you, but to give you some infomation about it. 😂
Or... if you are really passionate :please: , No PROBLEMS! 🙂
Why don't you quickly take a grade 3 exam (theory+practical). It is (i think) a must.
But... if you feel that MEP is stressful after you chose it, you can't quit...
                (im sure you'll know this)

Grade 3 theory definitely not enough for MEP. Should be at least Grade 5 or more to understand better what they discuss in MEP lessons. Quit not generally allowed and will be allowed by MOE under special circumstances.

Eligibility criteria is only Grade 3 theory and practical.

But from experience with my boys doing MEP, I know that having only a grade 3 background would be quite a struggle for the child to survive in MEP.

What is the difference between music and higher music at ‘O’ level? I only heard that music at ‘O’ level cannot be used to replace another humanity subject. Is there somewhere we can read and find out more?

Heard from piano teachers and some students that it is a very tough subject even for those with music background.

Phankao, can share with us your boys’ background and how they are coping? My kid is Grade 7. From your experience, you think can manage?
