      Pri 20-30 per hour

      Sec 35-45 per hour
      JC 50-70 per hour

all above rates depending on experience of teacher and location. Anything more is a rip-off ! (Of course some tutor charge less).

BTW, lawyers charge $150 per hour for professional legal advice. If you are paying a tutor more than that, might as well hire a lawyer. At least you can proudly say, my son’s tutor is a lawyer!

Two of my friends pay $40 per hour (home tuition) for primary levels.

IMHO, 365psych's quote isnt very complete. Most MOE/NIE trained teachers charge around $30-$55 even if its primary school. Rates depend on popularity, years of experience and position level (e.g. Teacher, Senior Teacher, HOD, Master Teacher etc)

Otherwise, I would agree that psych's rates are pretty much the industry's current charges.

\"all above rates depending on experience of teacher and location\"

MOE/NIE trained means little to me these days, as 'A' level students can teach a subject better than a trained teacher. They understand student issues and needs better. Most MOE/NIE trained teachers also do not apply what they have been taught in NIE - so why should they command a high price? Just because they have a teachers union card? Anyway, lets keep this for another thread.

If you want real super teacher, ask if they can teach according to the principles of Blooms' Taxonomy or Gagne (pronounced as Ga-nay). No point paying high if teacher/tutor pedagogy is not clear. Parents MUST ask all teachers/tutors, \"What is your pedagogy and how do you aim to instill subject matter confidence in my child.\" You will scare away many tutors, but the left over can truthfully answer.

I chanced upon this and completely agree with you. I have had previous experiences with very 'qualified' teachers with many years of experience. They also do not come cheap! But there are A level and uni grads that are equally capable to understand your child and introduce difficult concepts at their level. They work hard because they have much to prove. My kids are taught by two university students and I am pleased so far with their results.

Having said, some parents may not be comfortable with letting their child be taught by 22 year old, so it is as they say : To each his/her own.

                  Hello,

Am unsure if the current school teacher asking for P6 - $60 per hour and P3 - $40 per hour sounds reason....

anyone there whom like to share your thoughts? :?:

IMHO, P3 pricing sounds average. P6 slightly high side but still within range 😃 If u want lower rates, not necessary to find school teachers.

Changing tutors now would be a gamble. If she has been good, why not continue? As long as you find the pricing reasonable. Most tutors will ask for higher pay as your child move up the level.
