Always SCS Butter for me and my ma if you want the best results. Some like Lurpak. NTUC brand is OK for cooking but not nice enough for baking.

I used Emborg butter (in my fridge then) when I tried my hand at Funz’s muffin recipe. They turned out well but I didn’t get a strong buttery smell (maybe overpowered by the Nutella).

      Never tried other brands.

Buy unsalted butter for baking cakes.

        Hi,

I'm new in this thread. I have no baking background as I was a technical student. Hope to learn from fellow bakers here. Cheers!
Dun worry... most of us are novices too! I prefer to cook real food so my baking is entry-level too. I can only bake simple stuff like banana cake (Nigella Lawson recipe), Bingka Ubi (tapioca cake), Quiche Lorraine and now, Nutella muffins and Brownies. I don't even dare to make butter icing to decorate cakes.

ic...some said golden churn as it has the most buttery smell. 🙂

but hard to find unsalted for this brand.

yup yup, unsalted for cakes otherwise the cake would turned out to be too salty.haha...

I'm just the opposite of all of you, I like my cake to taste alittle savoury. As the hokkien saying goes \"kiam pang, kiam pang\". So I usually use salted butter. Some recipe calls for a pinch of salt, so in this case you can omit the salt as the butter is already salted.

So far, I've not come across any butter with strong buttery taste unless you use lots of it. I'm a regular with Lurpak or President. SCS is far too salty for me though.

For butter (I prefer unsalted and add salt when necessary), I prefer lurpak but it is getting really expensive now so I will usu stock up when there is a promo. My other regular butter are SCS, Emborg and Golden Churn. Again, will buy to stock up whenever there’s a discount/promo price.

During CNY, a friend made pineapple tarts using NTUC salted butter. The pastry turned out salty and no buttery taste, not to my liking.

Another friend uses butter from PH (can’t rem which brand) but I find it lacks in flavour.

SCS for me most of the time. Occasionally golded churn. Lurpak too ex for baking but we like it on our bread.

My mum used to buy cowhead for cookies but I cannot stand the smell. Find that it borders on pukey smelling.

Ebelskivers. Told the kids I was making that for them for breakie and they stared at me like I've grown another head. haha

Ok, not that nice a pic cos I did not dust these fellas with icing sugar and dress the plate up with some clotted/fresh cream and jam.

But boy did the kids take to them. These are basically little balls of pancakes. I filled them with banana and nutella, and a couple of them with kaya for my helper, can't go wrong with that. Choice of filling is up to your imagination. But to make these you need an ebelskiver pan and it is kinda time consuming.

Funz, what pan do you make your ebelskiver with? It looks like a bigger version of Takoyaki! How do they taste like?
