Super Mama:
I learnt from my nutritionist and naturopath that supplements help boost your body's well-being and immunity but you should take breaks where you don't take any supplements to allow your body to build it's own immunity and the efficacy of supplements are not as effective if you take it continuously.
Hi BeanBear
I have been giving my 7 year old DD Sambucol everyday. 2 teaspoon each day as per the usage instructions on the box.
U mentioned that the product cannot be taken continuously for more than 2 weeks. Is there any adverse effect? Where did you get this info?
I've been doing that with my kids. I dont' always keep to the 2 weeks - it's just an estimate. The key indicator is noticing my kids' level of energy, any early signs of being under the weather eg light nose stuffiness, sore throat, or even just general reports of people falling ill around us. The moment I notice such indicators going up, I pump my kids immediately with Sambucol for 2 weeks. If they are already slightly under the weather, the dosage goes up for 3 days and then to regular dosage. If one child is under the weather, immediately, all other kids is on Sambucus. My kids have not seen the doctor or cough or flu for the past 2 years! The flu does not get a chance to become full-blown :))

Based on your experience, can I check if it is less effective to give Sambucol when they already start coughing for a couple of days, as compared to giving them on the 1st day when you feel they are going to get it??.... Or it really doesnt matter at all?... -
I will observe whether the child’s cough is triggered by mucus in the nose or not. If it’s related to the nose, then I will also supplement with a homeopathic nose spray or another supplement which is targeted to loosen mucus instead of sambucus.
If the cough persists, I use Hart Tongue herb which is what I get from my naturopath. For my family, Hart Tongue has been very effective for dry persistent cough and usually it works just after 2 days.
My experience is that Herbal remedies work very well when you use at the ONSET of the symptoms but it’s also careful monitoring of different symptoms and whether there are new symptoms.
I’m not a doctor or naturopath so pls discern what’s appropriate for your child and research more about the use of herbal remedies because if your child has allergies, they can also have strong reactions to herbs too. I learnt alot also from my naturopath and my children have done very well with herbal remedies. But I must add that herbal supplements or remedies are not easy to consume because of the strong taste. So far my kids have been very cooperative even though they can’t stand the taste but they continue to cooperate because they have experienced how quickly they recover. -

Naturopathy is a \"path\" that I have neither tried nor heard from any close family/friends on it... But thanks for your sharing, at least learn that there are other alternatives worth exploring. :rahrah: -
Just to share, My boy is prompt to dry consistent cough. I read and found out this remedy of making honey drink (spoonful of honey mix with lukewarm water), so far it works well.
