      Another setback for me.

My boss did not give me a increment. Most of my colleagues got it. I am not sure it is because he feels my salary is too high or a way of asking me to leave?

I am now seriously thinking of looking for another job. I really hope to get a job that I could stay for long as age is catching up and it will be more and more difficult to get a job. I am in the accounting line and I am afraid of big firms where month end closing has to work late as I need to pick my boy up from child care.

Just need to vent here. Thanks for reading.
As you mentioned, you are doing payroll, you will be able to see others' salary. You will know if it is true that your salary is on the high side. But in any case, I personally feel that your boss need to be \"answerable\" to you why you are not positioned for a increment. Is it because you are already hitting the top of range or is it because of performance? At least you know what is happening and decide if you need to take corrective actions.

My personal belief is that if communication are in place, performance rating and increment % is never a surprise for both parties. If it is a surprise, then obviously something has gone seriously wrong with communication. This is an aspect both parties need to reflect. Boss not communicating enough (only communicate positive and not weaknesses) or employee in dreamland and cannot look at their own flaws????

recently heard that Accounting is stated as one of the \"iron rice bowl\" of our time. But I don't think this is the case. It really depends on company performance. In any case, suggest you look for a job before moving to next co. Sometimes a move might not be a bad thing. But you might also want to do some self evaluation in the event that he said it is due to performance. Is there something that you can avoid for next role.

Feeling better after reading the post here. I am not alone... i dislike my boss too.

I am working in an enviroment where its only me and my boss. I stay in the west, office in the east, 3hrs on the road everyday. If boss not in, basically i travel office to face 4 walls, no politics, no lunchmate, nothing. When boss in town, he brings his lunch from home. Work else, is BSBH, but if without my boss unreasonable requests like retype the 10pages of documents or list of expenses for 2011 (i am not doing accounting) within 2 days, overall duties are still manageable. Oh, did i tell u he is a Singaporean from India... \"white indians\" high class type. Super low EQ and fake, can ask u \"how is your family\" but not expecting an answer from you as he will ask next qns w/o me answering him the first qns. I have this feeling that he is looking down on me, no annual reviews or as such, every year same % of increament.... sorry for the long winded sorry but just wanna let out... my mum says i am lucky already, no OT, no goverment, except have to deal with 'him'. To a certain extend, i agreed, but seems like i am wasting my time here, pulling my morale down everyday 😞

Someone told me not long ago that a job is ‘‘Just Obey Boss’’ How to like it?

99% has got no choice but to work for the pay. Go and learn some useful skills, make your money works for u and when ready, sack your boss.

            Thanks MMM for your advice

Yes communication is definitely a problem with my boss. I don’t know how to communicate with a person who has a perpetual bao-gong face and no eye contact. I don’t know how to communication with a person who flare up at the slightest question that he feel it is "understood" and thus give you a "You are stupid" face.
As such I don’t wish to confront him on the reason why I do not have a
increment. I believe he will say that I m not good enough. I respect
            that opinion.
If you ask me whether my salary is high. No. It is nothing to shout about.
I do not have a degree and I will not ask for more. Moreover my focus
now is on my boy. So I do not look forward to any promotion or advance in my career path. I have worked for a medium size foreign company
before for many years and I know my abilities and attitude.

Of course I would like to look for a job before I go. However working in a small SME is extremely difficult to take leave in short notice. I will bear as long as i could. If really cannot stand it, will have to quit first and find a job later.

            Thanks all for advice!!

I think no increment at all is quite harsh. We have to cope with inflation you know. Prices are all increasing and if wage does not increase at all, how to cope?

Time to look for another job...

No need to thank us, we're all here to provide a listening ear, and to vent too!

Xueyan, I know how u feel about boss giving "you are stupid" look. I hope oneday this will happen to them and they will how it’s like. My boss sometimes give me that look too. I m waiting for an opportunity to indirectly tell him. For the time being I tolerate because of money.

My boss also do not like people using Facebook, surf net or use iPhone in office. BUT he can do that! Double standard. He also don’t like people to be late but he is always late. What a joke!!!

Hi! How’s everyone coping? Are you still stuck in your job since our last communication?

Well I m still stuck in this job. The job itself is easy but the bosses never change. So I m still facing the same problem! I really envy people who can tolerate their bosses for the sake of money. It’s a struggle for me everyday. Now I m 8 months into the job. Its really true about the saying, when you join a company, its really because of the company but when you leave, you leave because of the boss.

I was up on the chair in an instant. My hands wrapped around his neck, squeezing with every ounce of my strength. He coughed and spoke in a voice that I could barely make out. He said sorry over and over again! His eyes lined with sorrow and regrets. He pleaded me to stop. I let go. His body limp and collasped like a puppet without string. I felt at peace again.

I was jolted back to reality by the sharp ringing tone of my boss’s hp. He answered the phone and laughed as he walks back to his room. I cursed and swear as I continue with my typing.

Ya, I need to go back to work again tomorrow. Sigh!
